Award Winning Leeds Restaurant Dough Bistro Re-Opens as Aperitivo, bringing Italian Culture with a Yorkshire Flair

Aperitivo aperi-tivo

noun – An alcoholic beverage consumed prior to a meal with the intention of cleansing the pallet and stimulating the appetite.
They say you should go out on a high note, and that’s exactly what Leeds fine-diner Dough Bistro are doing. 2017 has seen them celebrate their 10th anniversary as well as another triumphant win at the Oliver Awards for Best Suburban Restaurant, however founder Luke Downing has decided to retire his West Park foodie favourite to make way for a fresh concept.
As of early November, the restaurant formerly known as Dough Bistro will have undergone a complete transformation, to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix to become Aperitivo. Taking the very best of Italian cuisine and drinking culture and throwing in a good dose of Yorkshire flair, Aperitivo presents the foodies of Leeds with a casual and unpretentious space to drink, eat and unwind.
As the name suggests, visitors can expect a sensational cocktail menu packed with refreshing, pallet cleansing Italian staples. The Negroni and Aperol Spritz and will both be present and correct, and available with an Aperitivio twist, or in classic form for the traditionalists.

The Menu

Diners will be able to choose from a tempting selection of meats, which are all cured in-house, as well as the best Italian cheese selection you’ll find in the suburbs, or indeed the city. A wide range of small plates will be on offer, including some excellent options for lovers of Frutti di Mare.

Whitby Scallops with Garlic and Truffle, Giant Prawns with Gluten-free Wild Garlic Tagliatelle and an Octopus Garden Salad are just three creations to feature on the menus seafood section.
Those looking for comfort food can seek out the stone-baked pizza menu, which combines classic toppings with more adventurous ingredients that Luke’s followers have come to expect. The menu has been something of a labour of love, and was put together by Luke and his new chef, who brings with him 20 years of experience, as well as three rosettes.

Tuscan Wine Flights

Of course, no Italian restaurant or bar would be complete without a selection of the finest Tuscan wine flights, all of which have been handpicked from Italy’s most prolific vineyards by Luke himself.
Aperitivo will also be providing world-class brunch and exceptional coffee blends to fuel guests throughout the day. West Park locals will also be able to indulge in Aperitivo from the comfort of their own home, as a wide selection of pizzas, small plates and drinks will be available on Deliveroo.
The project marks yet another chapter in Downing’s impressive career, that has so far seen the highly decorated Chef open three successful restaurants in Leeds over a 10-year period. Shadwell based Nineteen provides visitors of Leeds Golf Centre with an informal space to watch the latest live sport, while Vice & Virtue has made huge waves in central Leeds in just 12 months.
As the only new Leeds based entry in the 2018 Good Food Guide, Vice also picked up the illustrious Best Fine Dining gong from the 2017 Oliver Awards, which capped off a remarkable first 12-months for the former strip club.
As Aperitivo prepares to open for business, which will feature close to 40 covers, the city’s many food critics will be anticipating what Luke and his talented team will bring to Leeds’s thriving dining scene.
Speaking ahead of the launch founder Luke Downing, ‘This is the most excited I’ve been about a restaurant opening in a long time. Aperitivo will see Italian influenced food combine with local produce to create a laid back dining destination with exceptional food and cocktails. We have an incredible team with rosetted chef’s and experienced mixologists ready to cater to the North Leeds foodies. The informal nature and relaxed atmosphere will hopefully entice families and give the suburban area a great value, top quality restaurant. We’ve undertaken a full refurb, and Dough customers won’t recognise the place. I can’t wait to get Aperitivo up and running and showcase to the public what our trips to Italy, extensive menu development and the terrific wine selection we’ve spent months creating.”
Opens Friday 17th November.
Apertivo, 293 Spen Lane, Leeds LS16 5BD – 0113 278 7255
