For the last 10 years, Sheffield Food Festival has drawn tens of thousands of visitors to the city to celebrate food and drink from across the region and beyond. Sheffield Food Festival will be making its return this May Bank Holiday, 26th – 29th 2023 and taking over the Peace Gardens, St Paul’s Parade, Millennium Square, Town Hall Square and Pinstone Street. Bringing an exciting blend of great local produce, mouthwatering street food, talented chefs and outstanding brewers and distillers.
In 2023 the new festival producers, Swans Events, will build on those wonderful years, and develop the festival for more years to come, working with the local community to deliver the best street food, artisanal produce, drinks, live entertainment, music and more.
Noemi Antonelli, Managing Director at Swans Events and Kelham Island resident explained some of their vision: “We want to showcase Sheffield’s relationship with food through an exciting programme that continues to play an integral part in putting this city on the culinary map.”
This year, the event will boost over 50 traders, 16 acts, 2 DJs and 3 special evening events. The festival – which attracts around 40,000 visitors each year – is a bustling exhibition of Sheffield’s flourishing food and drink scene. Around 90 per cent of the traders who take part are based in the city region. We know it’s going to be an incredible festival.
Mouthwatering Street Food Traders
At this year’s Sheffield Food Festival, there will be a spectacular selection of ready-to-eat delicious food cooked live for diners. This year they’ve got returning classics as well as new local makers. Returning traders include Churromania, Chef Stef, Sunshine Pizza, The Yorkshire Crêpe Co, Caribbean Fusion, Zzinga Cider Bar, Riverford Organic and Gurdev Indian Street Food. Exciting new traders include Eat Dutch, VorV, Tonco Bakery, China Red and much more.
Artisans Market
Here you can expect food producers and businesses to share their expertise and tasters of everything from homemade preserves to unusual gins, olives, pies, decadent brownies or toffee vodka. The artisan’s market lineup this year includes smooth delicious chocolate rum from Lucelas, homemade premium brownies and bruffles by The Brownie & Bruffle Co and slow-fermented bread, cakes and pastries from Tonco Bakery.
The Peace Gardens Village & Special Events
A solar-powered camper van stage in the Peace Gardens, sponsored by Indie-Go Resurrection & Maddog Kitchen, a vibrant live music, bar and food venue brought to you by 5 indie music lovers from the Steel City.
The lineup features 50/50 male and female artists from a huge mix of genres and vibes. These brilliant artists have been featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Sheffield and Tramlines Festival.
A later opening for the Peace Gardens until 9 pm also taps into efforts to refresh the city centre as an after-hours destination. Every night they have exciting FREE events for all the family to enjoy. Grab some food and a drink from the traders and get involved to be in with a chance to win special prizes.
They have Drag Bingo on Friday evening from 7 pm hosted by Sheffield-based drag host Emma Maezin; Saturday Night disco with Hannah Fey & Chris Q, bringing fun and funk to a house set is their aim, and to get feet dancing. On Sunday evening is Steel City Quiz night, hosted by immersive and improv actor Christopher Blackmore.
Prizes to be won include special gems like tickets to The Escape Room Game in Sheffield, tickets for a bungee jump at UK Bungee Club at Magna Sheffield or food and drinks tasting from the fabulous traders. They will be super fun events and a great way to celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend. It is hoped that Sheffield Food Festival 2023 will inspire not just food lovers but also festival-goers.
Noemi added, “We want to appeal to people who are interested in different foods and different types of events to represent the diversity in the city”.
