Award Winning Thai Street Food Bringing a Taste of Thailand to Yorkshire
From in-house takeaway to an award-winning street food trader, winning the Judges vote at the British Street Food Northern Heats 2017, Tikk’s Thai Kitchen has quickly built up a reputation amongst the Yorkshire street food scene. We caught with Tikk and partner Nikki to find out how they’ve achieved their success in such a short space of time.
The Man Behind the Brand
Tikk originally from Thailand, grew up around thai food with his parents as restauranteurs. Coming to England he was professional trained by Avenue Restaurant London’s Head Chef who took notice of his amazing work ethic, training him on every section of the kitchen. Following this, his journey took him to work at various hotels as a head chef, now with over 12 years catering experience in the UK alone.
The Tikk’s Thai Kitchen journey started from their very own kitchen, serving authentic thai takeaway every Friday night. Posting their menu on Facebook on the Monday and waiting for Thursday to the orders to flood in. Nikki said: “people loved the Thai takeaway and were travelling from all over to try Tikk’s food, word spread fast. This started the idea of going full time and investing in our Air Stream trailer”. (During the busy festival season the Thai takeaway is currently closed, follow them on Facebook for updates).
The Food
Still picking up the phone to his mum every so often to discuss recipe ideas, Tikk’s dishes showcase authentic thai food at its best. All family recipes that are tried and tested. All food is bought fresh, cooked on-site at street food events and soured as local as possible, such as their meat from Skyes House Farm.
Asking Nikki what their signature dishes are, it became clear that their food is truly loved. From their pad thai, to Sykes House Farm chicken skewers with Thai pickled salad and satay sauce (the dish that won the judges vote at the British Street Food Awards), huge butterflied king prawns dipped in panko breadcrumbs and served with sweet chili sauce and their Massaman chicken curry. The list could go on.
Private Event Catering
With their eye-catching Air Stream Street Food Van which can be used for indoor or outdoor events, Tikk’s Thai Kitchen has the look to match with the outstanding food. From canapé events to the full takeover, with one customer choosing all 7 starters for their wedding as they couldn’t pick one, plus their range of mains and desserts on offer. Catering also for vegans and vegetarians, Tikk and Nikki will work with you to create a menu that suit your needs.
