York Food Festival returns this September with another impressive line-up

York will once again host its annual food and drink festival from September 19th to 28th. You can expect culinary demonstrations, cultural collaborations and a hands-on foodie experience.

The festival began in 1997 and aims to celebrate everything we have here in Yorkshire, Chefs and produce! They have a vibrant programme lined up to keep everyone fed and busy over the ten days.

The most amazing part of the weekend is the Festival Market. 70 stands from local food producers, independent restaurants and retailers will span Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, serving incredible street food.

In the midst of the street food market will be the Yorkshire stand – open daily. There’ll be free samples from regional producers showcasing the best of Yorkshire, think cheese, smoked goods, spirits, chocolate and coffee.

York Food Festival Director, Michael Hjort said: “This year’s York Food Festival is all about collaboration and connection – bringing together communities, producers, performers and the next generation of food lovers. From tasting sessions to job opportunities, and scones to cinema, there’s something for everyone. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Demonstrations will be taking place throughout the week in St Crux Hall, showcasing some real Yorkshire talent, including:

– Neil Bentick from Michelin Guide’s Skosh,

– Head chef for Legacy at The Grand, Ahmed Abdalla, joined by his colleague, executive chef Kevin Bonella and head pastry chef Devin Jones.

– Minal Patel from Prashad Bradford,

– Mike Cummings, head chef at The Drovers Arms Skipwith

These aren’t the only demonstrations throughout the festival! The food factory will be hosting over 1000 primary school children delivering butter, cheese, scones and pizza making sessions, which will also be available to the public on the weekend.

From outdoor music stages, supporting St Leonard’s Hospice, self-guided taste trails, meet the maker, curry comedy night and a hospitality industry professional pop-up, you will not be short of things to do at York Food Festival.

Have you ever tried making a Pork Pie? The ultimate pork pie competition will also be taking place this week, inviting entries to be judged by a panel. You can enter here!

We are really excited about the event and cannot wait to enjoy all the activities hosted this year, as well as trying some of Yorkshire’s finest produce and celebrating what our region has to offer.
