After the success of their experimental outdoor dining experience during the summer of 2020, the team at the Black Bull Inn at Sedbergh, have developed the concept and have now launched The Stables and The Meadow.
Black Bull at Sedbergh owners James and Nina have reinvigorated elements of the first-ever business, The Moocher, which offered award-winning outdoor dining experiences at festivals and events across the country. Utilising their previous experience, the couple have spent time during the winter months creating a festival style space in their historic Dales pub’s beer garden in line with their simple food ethos to showcase and use seasonal locally sourced produce.
They’ve created an outdoor bar called The Stables, which serves a selection of drinks to socially distanced tables ‘bierkeller style’ and The Meadow provides 30 socially distanced tables located under pergolas, perfect for keeping diners snug and dry while they enjoy a drink, some food and a well-deserved catch-up.
Black Bull, Sedbergh – Weekly Changing Seasonal Menu
Alongside drinks, the team at the Black Bull Sedbergh is also serving food from an extensive weekly changing seasonal menu. A wide choice of dishes is on offer, including a range of delicious dishes cooked in their giant wood-fired Gozney oven including handcrafted sourdough pizzas. The team is also serving up a variety of fish and seafood dishes cooked over coals on their bespoke blacksmith made griddle and spit, including fresh langoustine with chimichurri and Lake District lobster with wild garlic butter.
Spit-roasted dishes include the likes of slow-cooked Howgill beef brisket and Height of Winder Farm leg of lamb, all served alongside homemade breads and grilled seasonal vegetables. A variety of vegetarian dishes are also on offer as well, including cauldron cooked lentil and chickpea curry, corn with sriracha mayo, pickled ginger and miso aubergine.
James Ratcliffe co-owner of the Black Bull, Sedbergh commented: ‘’It’s been really interesting resurrecting elements of The Moocher, our former outdoor catering business. We’d always intended to do it but didn’t really have the time before. The winter lockdown has allowed us to adapt that business and add it to our offering at the Black Bull, Sedbergh which we will develop further over time. We’ve spent time refining some of our old dishes and developing new ones, whilst learning how best to use the cooking equipment we’ve installed this winter, and now we’re open we can’t wait to show people our outdoor dining menus.’’
Tables are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. For enquiries call 015396 20264 or email [email protected]
