New To Wakefield: Robatary
Wakefield’s flourishing dining scene gets another welcome addition as the long-awaited opening of Robatary on Northgate arrives on 15th December. Devised by the team behind Qubana restaurant which recently saw a complete transformation of the old Barclays bank into the award winning bar/restaurant and one of the cities most popular venues.
Robatary sees a completely new approach with a menu that utilises some of the very best seasonal and local produce, alongside international cuisines. Dishes will be cooked over the state of the art Japanese style ‘Robata’ slow cooked charcoal grill, to add a real depth of smoky flavour. Together with modern techniques like sous vide water bath, plus an in-house smoker, to give a unique range of taste and textures. Their menu will feature local charcuterie and Yorkshire cheeses, charcoal and wood-fired fish, meats and vegetables, amongst European, South American and Asian influences.
Robatary is completely unrecognisable to the previous Qubana restaurant with no expense spared to bring another showstopping venue to the city. There’s a contemporary use of steel and concrete together with wood, rattan lighting, natural leather booths and floor to ceiling glass display cabinets to showcase the wine and charcuterie available, as guests walk into the new entrance. There’s also new separate bar area which leads to the brand new restaurant. Previous guests to Qubana will agree the new venue seems to have grown in size, with a clever use of space and design the restaurant comfortably seats up to 60 covers alongside ample space to enjoy drinks at the new bar area.
The bar and drinks menu works well with the food and mirrors the menu perfectly. Utilizing some of the best UK and international draught beers and paired wines to compliment the cuisine available.
Guests can enjoy the entire wine list including champagne and prosecco by the glass, thanks to the introduction of the new Verdavin wine system. The perfect excuse to treat yourself to a celebratory glass of fizz!
Cocktails are shown a unique twist with well-loved classics featuring a touch of smoke and char, together with some of the best rums, bourbons, whiskeys and gins found on any bar menu in the region. Even the outside area will be unrecognizable with new a private entrance, raised planters and heaters, alongside contemporary seating for drinkers and diners alike under the permanent outside canopy.
Robatary is set to open its doors to the public on Friday 15th December. The redevelopment of the venue will bring an extra 20-30 jobs to Wakefield city centre, the increased footfall of diners will also aim to support the surrounding restaurants and bars and breathe new life into the city’s dining and nightlife scene.
