What to do when visiting Saltburn-by-the-Sea
Take a stroll down Yorkshire’s last remaining pier
Dating back to 1869, Saltburn-by-the-Sea has the last remaining pier in Yorkshire. Stroll out and enjoy coastal sea views, taking in the fresh seaside air. Extending out into the sea for 200 meters, watch surfers and seabirds as the world goes by.
Explore the Valley Gardens
Saltburn-by-the-Sea’s Valley Gardens are perfect for a woodland stroll, with circular walking routes and pretty wild flowers. There are Italian gardens, tea rooms, Saltburn’s Miniature Railway and a children’s play area too.
Once you’ve explored the seaside, a trip to the Valley Gardens is ideal, especially if the little ones need to let off some steam.
Hop on Saltburn Cliff Tramway
It wouldn’t be a day at Saltburn-by-the-Sea without a trip on their iconic Cliff Tramway.
Dating back to 1884 with stained glass windows, this is a sneak peak into the history of Saltburn. Go for a ride and soak in panoramic views of the coast.
What to eat when visiting Saltburn-by-the-Sea
The Seaview Restaurant
Now, onto the main attraction for us at Yorkshire Food Guide – the food. First up on our list is The Seaview Restaurant, a gorgeous, light and airy restaurant serving fantastic fresh seafood.
Culinary stars Nadiya Hussain and Fred Sirieix visited The Seaview Restaurant in Saltburn-by-the-Sea for the BBC Two show ‘Remarkable Places to Eat’, and for a good reason too.
Try fresh pan-roast scallops, gin cursed sea trout or their classic Saltburn crab brioche , just delicious.

Koselig Bakeri
Just a short walk up from the beach, Koselig Bakeri is a bakeshop and coffee stop off that goes above and beyond. With fresh, crafted pastries, breads and focaccia sandwiches, gather your goods and enjoy a beach picnic!
Saturday is bread day, so swing by for a proper loaf of crusty sourdough to take home – warm, paired with plenty of jam and butter of course.
Grab a fresh slice at Pizza at No 23
If you’ve spent the day on a windswept walk, you may be in need of some quick, fresh and tasty food. Pizza at No 23 is bound to hit the spot. Authentic Neapolitan pizza, with dough made fresh each day and left to rest for 48 hours – the traditional way.
Their pizza and wine list is generous, so you won’t be stuck for choice either. If you’re visiting with a furry friend, their bar area is also dog-friendly, so you can pop in for a pup friendly pint.
Charcuterie and wine at Koze
This cosy nook in Saltburn is an independent restaurant with a great atmosphere. Serving antipasti and seasonal sharing boards, Koze is a hidden gem really worth exploring if you’re in the area.
Go for moreish grazing platters and fine wines, it’s a lovely date night spot or casual get together with friends.
