Sheffield Named as Top Food City in the UK Overtaking Manchester and London

Sheffield has been announced as one of the best food cities in the UK, overtaking the likes of Manchester and even London. 

Created by All.com, the rankings took into account a number of factors, including an analysis of all the cities outside of the capital as well as Google reviews and Michelin guide ratings.

Sheffield managed to get a 99 rating overall, making it to the top spot as one of the best food cities in the UK.

With a score of 54 on the ‘foodie population’ meter, the rankings took into account the city’s 4 Michelin-listed restaurants along with 71 food markets and 99 food events that take place throughout the year.

One of these events is the Sheffield Food Festival which takes place on the May Spring bank holiday celebrating the best of Sheffield’s food and drinks scene.

The Peddler Market also helps Sheffield to stand out as one of the best food cities in the UK, running a variety of street food events throughout the year.

The city houses some of the best dining destinations in South Yorkshire, from the popular Sardinian establishments Domo and Kelu to British fine dining Silversmiths and other hot spots including Bench and Native.

Sheffield is also home to two of the biggest food halls in Europe including Cutlery Works with a mix of different dining options to choose from and of course, Cambridge Street Collective which opened in May 2024.

Sheffield is not only one of the best food cities in the UK but also known for its beers, recently named the ‘real ale capital of the world’.

There are over 58 breweries in the city alone, having the highest amount of breweries per capita according to TimeOut.

After Sheffield, the best food cities in the UK according to All.com had Edinburgh in 2nd, followed by Newcastle in 3rd, Manchester 4th and Birmingham coming in 5th.
