The Black Bull Sedbergh launches new dining experience
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>
Taking place at one of our favourite venues, The Stables at The Black Bull Sedbergh, renowned Yorkshire Chef Nina Matsunaga is back with a new dinner series, From The Oven.
Nina Matsunaga once again invited diners to gather for a spectacular evening of seasonal, Japanese-inspired open-flame cooking using the best local produce.
The second event will take place on Friday, 15th May, and we can expect this dining experience to get booked up quickly.
The opening menu featured hand-dived scallop with yuzu and Isle of Wight tomato, roasted Mansergh Hall pork belly, Shetland mussels, Wild Farmed flour flatbread, seasonal pickles and salads, and a soy caramel tiramisu.
Chef Nina Matsunaga’s approach combines local ingredients with bold yet balanced flavours, creating dishes shaped by both tradition and the changing seasons.
What’s on the menu, Friday 15th May:
- Burrata, Mansergh Hall Pork, Yorkshire Tomatoes & Sourdough
- British White Rib of Beef, Spilman’s Asparagus, Spring Greens & New Potatoes
- Scottish Strawberry & Vanilla
At £45 per person, places are limited to just 30 guests.

The dinners are designed to offer an informal and intimate dining experience centred around the warmth and theatre of fire cooking.
Chef-Owner Nina Matsunaga says: “The opening night was incredibly encouraging, and it was wonderful to see guests enjoying dishes and flavours that are very personal to me.
Cooking over fire feels instinctive; it connects me to my Japanese heritage and to the many open-flame traditions I’ve encountered throughout my career.
From The Oven allows us to explore ideas that sit slightly outside our regular menus, always shaped by the seasons and the exceptional ingredients available locally.
Every dinner will evolve month to month depending on what’s growing and available, but that connection to seasonality, provenance and fire will always remain at the heart of it.”
