Yorkshire Chef Reaches UK Final Of Young Chef Competition

Kurtus Auty of Bosuns near York will compete in London this September, cooking for a star-studded judging panel.
Chef Kurtus Auty, Head Chef at York’s beloved Bosuns restaurants has reached the UK final of the highly prestigious S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition.
The S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition is a global initiative that strives to discover and support the most inspiring young chefs around the world.
The bi-annual competition and academy aims to push the boundaries of gastronomy and has the support of some of the most celebrated figures in the industry, including Kurtus Auty from The Riverfront, York.
Judges of the UK competition this year include Adam Smith, Lorna McNee, Nokx Majozi and Santiago Lastra. Being selected to compete at the UK final, taking place at Le Cordon Bleu in London on 25th September, means that Kurtus joins a shortlist of nine of the UK’s most promising chefs under 30.
Kurtus from Bosuns, York impressed an international judging panel, rising to the top of thousands of applications from all over the world who were inspired to enter the competition to share their vision and connect with the most influential people in the gastronomic world.
Private Chef for his own KA Private Chefs and Head Chef for Bosuns, York, Kurtus has been working in kitchens after he taught himself to cook by watching YouTube videos.
He then went on to attend Selby College where he studied Catering. If was after his studies, at age 18, he moved to London to work for Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant, Maze, where he worked as Chef de Partie, before heading to the Michelin-star restaurant Pétrus in Knightsbridge.
Kurtus also worked for a chef in Bordeaux, France at Le Pressoir d’Argent and Pucci in Mayfair as Head Chef. It was whilst working at Pucci that Kurtus was asked to be on the BBC’s infamous Masterchef: The Professionals TV series.
Speaking about his nomination Kurtus from Bosuns in York added: “I am really excited to be a part of the competition and to share my cooking skills with my peers. I am proud of my dish and hope it impresses the judges too.”
At the UK final in September, nine finalists will present their signature dishes to the renowned jury panel which will judge the candidates’ signature dishes and select the winners of the four awards.
The winner of the prestigious S.Pellegrino Young Chef Award will then go on to represent the United Kingdom at the global Grand Finale in Milan next year, which Kurtus Auty of Bosuns in York hopes to get through.
Throughout the following months, each global finalist will be accompanied by Mentor Chefs, who will provide them with guidance on how to improve their signature dishes and support them in their preparation for the international finals.
