Dakota Submits Plans To Open New Luxury Hotel in York

Luxury hotel group Dakota has submitted plans for a new hotel to be built in York city centre.
A public consultation on plans for a 140-bed hotel at the Northern House property on Rougier Street has been opened by the Evans Property Group and Dakota Hotels.

According to the plans, the current Northern House property would be demolished and replaced with a similar-height structure that would house a brand-new family-friendly hotel and generate over 125 new jobs for people in the area.
Additionally, the development would improve Rougier Street by adding to the street’s businesses and developments over the last few years.

Dakota in York has plans to feature over 140 rooms, a bar, multiple dining areas and even a rooftop terrace with access to the hotel coming from both Rougier Street and Tanner’s Moat.
The plans submitted so far feature the trademark Dakota design seen at their other sites across the UK, including Dakota Hotel, Bar & Grill in Leeds city centre.

Keeping in line with York’s existing architecture, the submitted plans for Dakota in York retain the same building height as the previous Northern House but with added sustainable building techniques.
Dakota is known for giving back to its local communities in the form of local opportunities, including graduate training programmes as well as apprenticeships and internships, making it recognised as one of the ‘Best Places to Work’ in the country by The Sunday Times.
As stated on a website that has launched following the submitted plans for Dakota in York, the Dakota Group have said: “Evans Property Group is partnering with Dakota Hotels to propose a new high-quality hotel at the Northern House site on Rougier Street.
The proposals would regenerate this vacant building through a full redevelopment, provide up to 125 full and part-time new jobs, and enhance the street scene through an attractive and sensitive design.”

A drop-in session for the plans will take place on Tuesday 10th September from 4 pm til 7 pm in the Mariott Room in the Explore Library on Museum Street, where locals can give feedback about the proposed development.
