Leeds Indie Food Festival 2019

Leeds Indie Food Festival 2019
Leeds Indie Food Festival will be returning from 9th – 27th May with over 75 events taking place across the city. There’s collaborations aplenty, with exclusive supper clubs, workshops and one-off events showcasing the finest food and flavours from Leeds’ thriving indie scene. The festival, which is celebrating its fifth year is supported by LeedsBID (Business Improvement District) and Leeds City Council.
The festival is set to be as diverse as ever with returning favourites alongside a host of brand new events, each promising customary innovation, forward-thinking and foodie unity across the city. The notorious ‘North Bar’s Magical Mystery Tour’ returns with two dates and weekly food festival #EatNorth also feature on the line-up with their #VeganNorth and Bank Holiday Special events.
New for 2019, The ‘Bloody Big Brunch’, a partnership with Hey Girls, addresses period poverty with entry fees paid in period products and ‘Tea Under The Trees’ sees Bake My Day take their legendary afternoon tea outdoors with This Green Moon at Swillington Organic Farm. There’s also a ‘Secret Muggle Supper’ and ‘Hands on Sensuality’ which promises to be a “heightened, sensory, pleasure-inducing night” with a 10-course tasting menu all served on to the back of your hand.
There’s a bunch of family-friendly offerings too, including Feast & Fiesta at Kirkstall Abbey – a weekend of samba, face painting and carnival vibes and family den building sessions at Grumpy’s Bar + Pizza with Scrap Leeds. Sustainability is a key thread for 2019. Alongside a host of plant-based experiences, Citu & The Honest Edibles will be hosting ‘A Sustainable Supper’ and The Real Junk Food Project (TRJFP) and Rainbow Junktion are delivering a ‘Food for Thought’ series, serving waste-free meals followed by provocative conversations on issues such as food waste, ethical ingredients and food poverty.
From eat along film screenings (Pulp Fiction, The Grand Budapest, Harry Potter) to brunches with cycles, den building, Chef’s Hands exhibitions, spice blending workshops, Afternoon Tea under the stars, whittling, foraging, fermenting, biscuit making and cake decorating, there really is something for everyone.
Following on previous years’ success, LIF19 will see over 150 collaborations from businesses across the city, presenting 75 innovative events. A record number of people are expected to attend as the festival celebrates its fifth year. A combination of free and ticketed events are available to book now on the Leeds Indie Food website. Venues across the city are involved including Vice & Virtue Group, Bundobust, Belgrave Music Hall, Below Stairs, Yard & Coop, Outlaws Yacht Club, House of Koko and many more.
