Celebrity Chef Michael O’Hare to open new intimate restaurant in Boston Spa

The brains behind what was once Leeds’ very own Michelin star, Michael O’Hare, is cooking up something new after a year’s hiatus.

Set to open early next year in the affluent Leeds suburb, Boston Spa, the new concept restaurant has been named Lamentation.

The chef-founder of Leeds’ Man Behind the Curtain was awarded the city’s only Michelin star after only a year of their opening in 2014.

Since then, O’Hare has had a colourful career, appearing as a judge on Great British Menu for ten consecutive years and going into business with footballers Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

After nine years of immaculate and often bizarre fine dining at his Michelin-accoladed restaurant, they closed their doors and handed back their Michelin star, ready for a rebrand.

Shortly after, Michael O’Hare’s Psycho Sandbar was opened, offering that same fine dining experience but more affordable and arguably more creative.

This closed in October of 2024 with a promise to return with something new. Well, now is the time, as Michael O’Hare has posted on his Instagram, recruiting a team for a new 16-cover fine dining concept, Lamentation, in picturesque Boston Spa.

With a Michelin star and a shedload of amazing dishes in his repertoire, the new venue will undoubtedly be a head turner.

If there is one thing about Michael O’Hare and his restaurants, it’s to expect the unexpected and prepare to be amazed. We are really looking forward to seeing what Lamentation in Boston Spa will entail.
