We’re already over halfway through the year and in the last few months we have seen many things come and go in the Yorkshire restaurant scene, including new awards, new chefs and new exciting restaurant openings. With that, we’re looking forward to the rest of the year and what we can expect to see next.

The Swine That Dines announces new restaurant opening

What started out as a little sandwich shop just outside of Leeds city centre has now turned into much much more. The Swine That Dine’s owners announced they will be moving to a bigger location in the Autumn of 2024.

Their plans include increasing their menu, wine lists and hosting private dining sessions for their customers. Known for their more unconventional approaches to food, The Swine That Dines makes the most out of their ingredients serving up dishes such as Beef Fat Burger Buns and Lamb Neck Ragu.

New late-night bar and restaurant set to open in Hull

Princes Quay in Hull will hopefully have a new addition later this year if their licencing application is approved. The 200-seater restaurant is set to bring a whole new concept to Hull’s nightlife, with stunning views of the quays. Its nature-inspired decor will also feature a real pond running through the restaurant, complete with giant lily pads and plenty of plants.

New £10m luxurious wellness retreat to open at former Raithwaite Sandsend site

The former Raithwaite Sandsend hotel is set to be completely transformed at the end of this year as a new wellness retreat: Saltmoore. The site will feature two brand-new hotels, a state-of-the-art spa, a 29-bedroom Beach House, four new dining establishments and various other activities for guests to enjoy. The retreat will bring a massive tourist boost to the quaint area of Sandsend and is set to fully open in September this year.


New summer venue opening in Leeds City Centre

City Square is set to be transformed this summer. Thor’s Tipi announced that they’re setting up a summery events schedule in Leeds, including artisan markets, street food vendors, a large TV screen and of course one of their iconic tipis. There’ll also be live music and entertainment and outdoor games to keep the little ones entertained. If you’re on the hunt for new openings in Leeds, you should definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Plans submitted for new La Bottega Milanese to open in York highstreet

Plans were submitted in May for a new coffee shop to open in a former Supercuts site in York. If the plans are permitted, the site will undergo a complete revamp with matte finish sliding windows. Wanting to bring a taste of Milan to York, the coffee shop could create a brand new space for York’s residents and visitors to gather and network over some tasty Italian sweet treats. The brand currently runs two of its coffee shops in Leeds.

Former Michelin-Listed Restaurant in Whitby to turn into Pescado Lounge

Following the closure of the iconic Star Inn The Harbour owned by Michelin starred chef Andrew Pern, the restaurant has now turned into a new contemporary, informal lounge space. Taken over by the Lounge Group, the Pescado Lounge serves up a range of dishes from all-day tapas menus to filling Thai curries and flatbreads.

The lounge also features a late-night bar, serving a wide range of cocktails and light bites. If you’re looking for a new restaurant opening near Whitby, this could be the place for you.

The Savvy Baker set to open a new cafe in York

Known for their delicious brownies, blondies and other sweet treats, owners of Savvy Baker Savannah Roqaa and Jordan Simms announced their new cafe venture in York. Set to open in June, the team have even crafted a special drinks menu exclusive to York including a Raspberry Iced Matcha, Iced Biscoff and an Iced Chocolate with coco pops.

Knoops to open new Leeds City Centre store

The famous British chocolate brand is finally making its way to Yorkshire. Opening in mid-June, customers can expect a completely customisable chocolate drink menu, featuring iced drinks, thick milkshakes and of course a range of hot chocolates.

Choose your cocoa strength, one of 9 dairy or plant-based milks and extras including orange zest, chilli and cinnamon. You can also add a homemade Knoops marshmallow to your drink.

Adam Degg, Head Chef FIFTY TWO, Rudding Park Hotel

New immersive dining experience to open at Rudding Park, Harrogate

Fifty-Two at Rudding Park in Harrogate has recently opened, headed by Great British Menu star Adam Degg. Adam used to be head chef 3-AA Rosette awarded Horto and has worked with a range of Michelin-starred chefs during his career. Fifty Two specialises in using the best of locally sourced ingredients, including ones grown in Rudding Park’s very own kitchen garden. Its not one to miss for new restaurant openings in Yorkshire.

Homeboy Pizza Co - new openings in Yorkshire

Homeboy Pizza Co to open first restaurant in Burley

The company plans to take over Leeds’ Harpo’s Pizza restaurant and dish up some delicious Neopolitan pizza. As much as everyone loves to see them in Roland’s on Call Lane, they will soon be cooking up a storm at their own bricks-and-mortar on Burley Road.

The independent business proudly sources the best, freshest ingredients, taking pride in making everything from scratch. The popular sourdough pizzas are a hit with both Leeds locals and visitors – everyone will be back for more.

Rudy’s York is opening in York City Centre this July

York food enthusiasts will get the chance to savour fan-favourite dips, delectable desserts and authentic Neopolitan pizza from Rudy’s.

Situated on High Ousegate, the restaurant will have a large open kitchen with plenty of dining space. Visitors can enjoy a traditional Italian spritz as they wash down their pizza, either inside or in the private courtyard.

Pho 37 Vietnamese food - new openings in Yorkshire

Vietnamese street food venue to open in the Merrion Centre this summer

Vietnamese street cuisine will be available in the heart of the city when Pho 37 opens its location in the Merrion Centre in July this year. Cooking expert Mrs Chi Dang owns and operates the authentic restaurant.

In Headingley, Pho 37 has already made a name for itself and is a favourite among locals. There will be 50 seats at the new space, with a menu that will feature a variety of Vietnamese dishes and tastes.

Haworth-based restaurant, The Treehouse, to open a second venue in Otley

Taking over a space in Otley formerly known as Korks Wine Bar, The Treehouse Bar & Kitchen is preparing for its next adventure since opening its doors in Haworth around 3 years ago.

Whilst preserving many of the original features, demolition has begun and an amazing interior and exterior makeover is well underway. The cosy spot is one of Yorkshire’s most exciting new restaurant openings in 2024.

Sheffield’s newest food hall has recently opened

Work on the new Cambridge Street Collective food hall was recently completed. The new venue offers not only bars and restaurants but lifestyle shops and even an entertainment venue.

The team behind Sheffield’s Cutlery Works have taken over to run the food hall which also features a cookery school and rooftop bar. Now one of Europe’s biggest food halls, it is a must-visit for any foodies in Sheffield.

Kirkgate Market STACK Leeds CGI

New Kirkgate Market food village, STACK, revealed Leeds plans

STACK submitted plans to the council to open a Leeds site, to help boost footfall across the whole market site. The new exciting space will accommodate existing traders, as well as new arrivals – making it one of the biggest sites in the region.

Although no confirmed date has been revealed for the opening, plans are certainly underway for the shipping containers to take over the outdoor space behind Kirkgate Market.

Their original bakery is located in Otley. The team love to keep things interesting so you’ll rarely find the same flavours twice. Along with speciality coffee, they’ll be selling cakes, sandwiches and seasonal pastries.

Unique Turkish Steakhouse, Etçi Mehmet, set to open on Eastgate in Leeds

Etçi Mehmet’s menu is influenced by the complex flavours of Turkish cuisine, taking diners on a gourmet adventure. With restaurants already in Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, they’re making their way into Yorkshire and opening a venue in Leeds.

Known for being one of the best Turkish steakhouses in the North West, customers will get to try slow-cooked delicacies, a variety of kebabs, exquisite grilled meats and flavourful vegetarian options.

Groucho Club Yorkshire Sculpture Park Bretton Wakefield

Famous private members club to open a location in Yorkshire

The A-list celebrity-studded Groucho Club is set to open a new location in 2026 at Bretton Hall, only a short distance from Wakefield. This will be the club’s first permanent location outside of London in its 39-year history, found in the Grade II listed hall at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The Groucho was originally founded in 1985 on Dean Street in Soho, London, with celebrity members including Stephen Fry, Lily Allen, Noel Gallagher, Rachel Weisz and more.

Fish&Forest notes wine bar - new restaurant openings

York restaurant Fish&Forest to open a wine bar in the city centre

The team behind the independent restaurant announced plans to open a wine bar in the centre of York this summer. Notes Wine Bar will take over the restaurant’s existing space on Micklegate as they relocate to Grape Lane.

The bar is set to be a relaxed and comfortable space where customers can enjoy wines from around the world. It will also serve a selection of small plates and snacks to accompany the beautiful wines. This is another great opening coming to Yorkshire in 2024.

JÖRO Sheffield - new restaurant openings in Yorkshire

Michelin-recommended Sheffield restaurant, JÖRO is relocating to a new site

JÖRO is a Scandinavian restaurant in a “little shipping container”, that opened its doors in South Yorkshire in 2016. With plans to relocate, the new restaurant will be found in the Oughtibridge Paper Mill development alongside a new bar, terrace and BBQ kitchen.

The restaurant will continue to innovate and use the finest available native ingredients to serve an elevated British tasting menu.

The team behind Whitelock’s, otherwise known as the oldest pub in Leeds and one of the cosiest pubs in Yorkshire, is thrilled to transform and reinvent the Grade II-listed White Cloth Hall into a space loved by everyone in the city and beyond.

Due to open in spring 2024, the building will showcase high-quality independent traders and Yorkshire-based producers. Bringing everyone together into a one-stop destination for all your food and drink desires. Some businesses may find a permanent residence in the hall, while others will pop up for a short period. You can also expect an exciting calendar of events too.

Fish & Forest York plating up a dish

Independent York restaurant will move to larger space in July 2024

Cosy seafood restaurant, Fish and Forest, have confirmed they will be moving their restaurant from Micklegate to Grape Lane in York in May of 2024. The Michelin-recommended restaurant will see an increase in restaurant size, with more opportunities to grow the team and drinks list. Aiming to keep the feel of their current restaurant, their usual seafood and game dishes will now be able to impress more York locals and tourists.
