The biggest new openings coming to Yorkshire in 2024
2023 has seen many things come and go in the Yorkshire restaurant scene, including new awards, new chefs and new exciting openings. With that, we’re looking forward to the year ahead in 2024 and what we can expect to see next.
With several impressive changes already planned and ready to shine in our beloved countryside towns and bustling city centres, 2024 is already looking like a year to remember.
After completing a 6-month residency as Executive Chef at the breathtaking Swinton Estate, BBC’s ‘My Million Pound Menu’ winner Ruth Hansom and her husband have revealed their new British Restaurant & Wine Bar, Hansom, opening in Bedale next February.
Their restaurant is set to serve a delicious 7-course tasting menu on the ground floor, and casual small plates in the wine bar on the first floor. Housed within a beautiful Grade II listed building in Bedale, the Yorkshire countryside just got a whole lot tastier.
For those craving authentic Neapolitan pizza in York, this Leeds-favourite is set to be opening their doors in the historic city next year. Plans have been submitted for the business to open their latest branch in a former shoe shop located on High Ousegate. Complete with a courtyard perfect for dining in the warmer months, customers can step into the new restaurant in 2024 to taste some seriously delicious pizza.
The team behind Whitelock’s, otherwise known as the oldest pub in Leeds and one of the cosiest pubs in Yorkshire, is thrilled to transform and reinvent the Grade II listed White Cloth Hall into a space loved by everyone in the city and beyond.
Due to open in spring 2024, the building will showcase high quality independent traders and Yorkshire-based producers. Bringing everyone together into a one-stop destination for all your food and drink desires. Some businesses may find a permanent residence in the hall, while others will pop-up for a short period. You can also expect an exciting calendar of events too.
Michel O’Hare’s famous Michelin-Starred restaurant, The Man Behind The Curtain, is due to serve its current menu until the end of December, before closing for a refurb at the start of the year.
Relaunching in 2024 as “Psycho Sandbar”, the new concept will heavily focus on fish and bring a ‘surf-shack’ feel to the restaurant. Known for their avant-garde dishes, Psycho Sandbar is set to be more affordable and flexible. Another exciting restaurant opening coming to Leeds very soon.
Paradise, owned by the power duo Ellie and Josh Malloy, was a former derelict space that was transformed into a new exciting social spot in the spa town. Their new permanent residence will be serving up Mexican-inspired street food including burritos, tacos, quesadillas and fries in their open kitchen, alongside a refreshing line-up of keg beers, cask ales and spirits.
Aiming to do their absolute best to offer a comfortable space in the cost of living crisis, step into the town’s new favourite bar to relax on the cosy sofas and tuck into a mouthwatering menu of street food favourites.
Opening its doors to the market in January 2024, Leeds Cookery School is excited to bring interactive workshops and a knowledge of food to the people of Leeds. Flavourful classes are already lined up at the Cookery School including ‘Caribbean delights’, ‘Malaysian Kitchen’ and ‘Cluck & Craft – zero waste chicken and cooking’.
The award-winning school will be operating with a range of chef-led classes within a well-equipped kitchen, perfect for those starting from scratch or wanting to improve their culinary skills.
The luxury North Yorkshire hotel, Aldwark Manor Estate is found on the outskirts of York. The owners have invested an additional £3 million to bring more life and luxury to the estate, including plans to open a magnificent fine dining restaurant, Chartwell.
Set to serve a diverse selection of dishes, focusing on locally sourced ingredients, the glamorous restaurant aims to deliver those dining an unforgettable experience. With plans to open the beautiful new space in spring, this is a new restaurant opening you don’t want to miss in 2024.
The well-known spirit shop in Leeds, Latitude Wines & Liquor Merchant are excited to announce they will be opening their first bar in the city in 2024, since outgrowing their first home under the arches.
Moving into a space on The Calls that is three times bigger, the new wine bar will serve cheese, charcuterie and special cocktails alongside the various bottles of spirits on offer. Ready to “serve wine by the glass and spirits by the shot”, the team are hoping to move in by spring 2024, ahead of an exciting summer.
A popular restaurant in the Steel City, Bench, announced their next venture opening in February on Park Hill in Sheffield. Bench la Cave will operate as a cosy bakery serving sweet treats and sandwiches during the day, and a social natural wine bar by night, with a menu inspired by the bars of Paris.
After the success of Pearl at Park Hill only opening in September 2023, Bench la Cave will open its doors in the same area.
Opening on Town Street in Horsforth next year is a mouthwatering new bistro, Bavette. Serving up traditional French cuisine amongst other European dishes, the bistro will be run by Sandy Jarvis, previous Head Chef and Managing Director at The Culpeper Group, alongside his husband Clement Cousin. Expect a warm, friendly and super hospitable restaurant, bringing the flavours of France to the streets of Horsforth.
In the lead-up to Christmas, work on Cambridge Street Collective was completed and the food hall is now ready to be fitted into the space. This new venue will offer not only bars and restaurants but lifestyle shops and an entertainment venue.
Once the space has been fitted, the team behind Sheffield’s Cutlery Works will take over to run a food hall, cookery school and rooftop bar.
Since closing their doors in July of 2023 with immediate effect, 2024 is looking brighter as Dough Eyed Pizza near Shambles Market announced they would be re-opening their doors this February.
