The biggest new restaurant openings coming to Yorkshire

We’re already over halfway through the year and in the last few months we have seen many things come and go in the Yorkshire restaurant scene, including new awards, new chefs and new exciting restaurant openings. With that, we’re looking forward to the rest of the year and what we can expect to see next.

New Garden Room opening at The Devonshire Arms

A new dining area has been unveiled at The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in Skipton.  Boasting a brand new summery menu and a new botanical theme, the new opening aims to provide a more informal style of dining to the popular countryside hotel.

A seasonal afternoon tea will also be served in the Garden Room in the Summer months, overlooking the hotel’s stunning Italian courtyard. This is definitely one of the best new restaurant openings in Yorkshire this Summer.

The Swine That Dines announces new restaurant opening

What started out as a little sandwich shop just outside of Leeds city centre has now turned into much much more. The Swine That Dine’s owners announced they will be moving to a bigger location in the Autumn of 2024.

Their plans include increasing their menu, wine lists and hosting private dining sessions for their customers. Known for their more unconventional approaches to food, The Swine That Dines makes the most out of their ingredients serving up dishes such as Beef Fat Burger Buns and Lamb Neck Ragu.

Leeds Food Festival

Expect great food, music, and entertainment as Leeds launches its long weekend food festivals just in time for summer.  Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays are soon to be jam-packed if you live in Leeds, or fancy visiting to try some great, fresh street food and fantastic drinks.

Only a short walk from the station, the festival is planned to take over Tower Works, in the Holbeck regeneration area. Full of character, it’s the perfect place for indie businesses, creators, and producers to come together and present their works. 

More details of specific vendors are to be announced soon, as well as social media detailing further information on how you can get involved – so keep your eyes peeled.

Heppni, York

Opened on 14th July, Heppni is a new artisan bakery and specialty coffee shop. The owner India previously worked at Roots, a Michelin-starred York favorite, and is joining the independent food scene with her passion for pastries.

Freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat, and even a Paddington pain suisse – orange marmalade, almond, and orange frangipane pastry with an orange vanilla glaze, are some of the delicious treats you’ll be able to munch on soon.

The York re-opening, Sheffield

After a recent refurbishment and major revamp The York, Sheffield is reopening to welcome old and new customers back. Now, they have new outdoor seating and a brand new menu full of pub classics.

You can even grab a free pint on them for their grand reopening if you sign up to their newsletter. Based in Fulwood, Sheffield, go for their iconic Monday quiz nights.

Vi Coffee, wine nights

After their success in Spark York, Vi Coffee has opened their new coffee and wine bar on Monkgate, York. ‘Vi’, which means ‘us’ in Swedish, has a short and simple menu, with British cheeses, cured meats from Yorkshire farms, and sourdough paired with excellent speciality wines. 

Their coffee hopes to bring a slither of Scandinavia to this historical city.

Their new wine club meets monthly and is for all levels of knowledge, but their last one sold out in seven hours, so you have to be speedy.

New late-night bar and restaurant opening in Hull

Princes Quay in Hull has a new addition to its lively nightlife this Summer. Having opened in early July, Iron Lilies in Hull promises a whole new concept to Hull with its 200-seater bar and restaurant. The botanical-inspired venue features real water features complete with giant lily pads and plenty of plants throughout its interior. There are also plans to introduce an outdoor mezzanine to showcase regular live music. Their vast menu includes a variety of dishes from light bites to sharing boards and plenty of signature cocktails.

New £10m luxurious wellness retreat to open at former Raithwaite Sandsend site

The former Raithwaite Sandsend hotel is set to be completely transformed at the end of this year as a new wellness retreat: Saltmoore. The site will feature two brand-new hotels, a state-of-the-art spa, a 29-bedroom Beach House, four new dining establishments and various other activities for guests to enjoy. The retreat will bring a massive tourist boost to the quaint area of Sandsend and is set to fully open in September this year.

New summer venue in Leeds City Centre

City Square has been transformed this summer. Thor’s Tipi announced that they’re setting up a summery events schedule in Leeds, including artisan markets, street food vendors, a large TV screen and of course one of their iconic tipis. There’s also live music and entertainment and outdoor games to keep the little ones entertained. If you’re on the hunt for new openings in Leeds, you should definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Plans submitted for new La Bottega Milanese to open in York highstreet

Plans were submitted in May for a new coffee shop to open in a former Supercuts site in York. If the plans are permitted, the site will undergo a complete revamp with matte finish sliding windows. Wanting to bring a taste of Milan to York, the coffee shop could create a brand new space for York’s residents and visitors to gather and network over some tasty Italian sweet treats. The brand currently runs two of its coffee shops in Leeds.

The Savvy Baker set to open a new cafe in York

Known for their delicious brownies, blondies and other sweet treats, owners of Savvy Baker Savannah Roqaa and Jordan Simms announced their new cafe venture in York. Set to open in June, the team have even crafted a special drinks menu exclusive to York including a Raspberry Iced Matcha, Iced Biscoff and an Iced Chocolate with coco pops.

New immersive dining experience open at Rudding Park, Harrogate

Fifty-Two at Rudding Park in Harrogate has recently opened, headed by Great British Menu star Adam Degg. Adam used to be head chef 3-AA Rosette awarded Horto and has worked with a range of Michelin-starred chefs during his career. Fifty Two specialises in using the best of locally sourced ingredients, including ones grown in Rudding Park’s very own kitchen garden. It’s not one to miss for new restaurant openings in Yorkshire.

Homeboy Pizza Co opens first restaurant in Burley

The company has taken over Leeds’ Harpo’s Pizza restaurant to dish up some of their delicious Neopolitan pizza. As much as everyone loves to see them in Roland’s on Call Lane, they have now relocated to their own eatery on Burley Road.

The independent business proudly sources the best, freshest ingredients, taking pride in making everything from scratch. The popular sourdough pizzas are a hit with both Leeds locals and visitors – everyone will be back for more.

Rudy’s York is opening in York City Centre this July

York food enthusiasts will get the chance to savour fan-favourite dips, delectable desserts and authentic Neopolitan pizza from Rudy’s, this July.

Situated on High Ousegate, the restaurant features a large open kitchen with plenty of dining space. Visitors can enjoy a traditional Italian spritz as they wash down their pizza, either inside or in the private courtyard.

Vietnamese street food venue to open in the Merrion Centre this summer

Vietnamese street cuisine will be available in the heart of the city when Pho 37 opens its location in the Merrion Centre in July this year. Cooking expert Mrs Chi Dang owns and operates the authentic restaurant.

In Headingley, Pho 37 has already made a name for itself and is a favourite among locals. There will be 50 seats at the new space, with a menu that will feature a variety of Vietnamese dishes and tastes.

Haworth-based restaurant, The Treehouse, to open a second venue in Otley

Taking over a space in Otley formerly known as Korks Wine Bar, The Treehouse Bar & Kitchen is preparing for its next adventure since opening its doors in Haworth around 3 years ago.

Treehouse in Otley provides the perfect place to catch up with friends over a cocktail or two while tucking into a hand-made pizza. The cosy spot is one of Yorkshire’s most exciting new restaurant openings in 2024.

New Kirkgate Market food village, STACK, revealed Leeds plans

STACK submitted plans to the council to open a Leeds site, to help boost footfall across the whole market site. The new exciting space will accommodate existing traders, as well as new arrivals – making it one of the biggest sites in the region.

Although no confirmed date has been revealed for the opening, plans are certainly underway for the shipping containers to take over the outdoor space behind Kirkgate Market.

Famous private members club to open a location in Yorkshire

The A-list celebrity-studded Groucho Club is set to open a new location in 2026 at Bretton Hall, only a short distance from Wakefield. This will be the club’s first permanent location outside of London in its 39-year history, found in the Grade II listed hall at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The Groucho was originally founded in 1985 on Dean Street in Soho, London, with celebrity members including Stephen Fry, Lily Allen, Noel Gallagher, Rachel Weisz and more.

Popular Thai restaurant to open venues in Leeds & York

Already making a name for itself in the town of Harrogate, Giggling Squid has plans to open their second Yorkshire site in York city centre. It will move into the former Banks’ Music Room shop and will serve a wide-ranging selection of Thai dishes.

In even more exciting news for 2024, Giggling Squid put forward an application to open their debut restaurant in Leeds. Perfect for Thai enthusiasts, guests can take a seat in the vibrant dining room and indulge in authentic, flavour-packed dishes.

Michelin-recommended Sheffield restaurant, JÖRO is relocating to a new site

JÖRO is a Scandinavian restaurant in a “little shipping container”, that opened its doors in South Yorkshire in 2016. With plans to relocate, the new restaurant will be found in the Oughtibridge Paper Mill development alongside a new bar, terrace and BBQ kitchen.

The restaurant will continue to innovate and use the finest available native ingredients to serve an elevated British-tasting menu.

Whitelock’s owners set to open new Food & Drink Hall in Leeds

The team behind Whitelock’s, otherwise known as the oldest pub in Leeds and one of the cosiest pubs in Yorkshire, is thrilled to transform and reinvent the Grade II-listed White Cloth Hall into a space loved by everyone in the city and beyond.

Due to open in Summer of 2024, the building will showcase high-quality independent traders and Yorkshire-based producers. Bringing everyone together into a one-stop destination for all your food and drink desires. Some businesses may find a permanent residence in the hall, while others will pop up for a short period. You can also expect an exciting calendar of events too.

Independent York restaurant will move to larger space in July 2024

Cosy seafood restaurant, Fish and Forest, have confirmed they will be moving their restaurant from Micklegate to Grape Lane in York in Summer of 2024. The Michelin-recommended restaurant will see an increase in restaurant size, with more opportunities to grow the team and drinks list. Aiming to keep the feel of their current restaurant, their usual seafood and game dishes will now be able to impress more York locals and tourists.
