Former Michelin-listed Whitby restaurant Star Inn The Harbour set to reopen as Pescado Lounge

Star Inn The Harbour, a former Michelin-listed restaurant in Whitby, closed its doors in 2022 – but now its former site is reopening as a late-night Pescado Lounge and bar.

The Pescado Lounge interior has been completely altered by the lounge group featuring patterned wallpaper and new tiling. The wooden floors have been stripped with giant vintage sofas, upholstered lounge chairs and quirky artwork all added to the restaurant.

New pendant lighting has been put in to create an atmospheric feel to the lounge while a magnificent mural of a “shell grotto” has also been installed to decorate the rear bar.

The Loungers group are known for their informal and olde-worlde styled restaurants, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in their relaxed lounges. The dishes themselves vary from tapas to Thai curries and flatbreads along with a range of cocktails.

The team behind the new Pescado Lounge currently runs Marisco Lounge in Scarborough, as well as operating more than 200 Lounges nationwide.

The Pescado Lounge is set to create over 30 jobs in the local area, with the lounge’s website stating “Our Lounge will be a home-from-home, offering delicious food and drinks, all day, on your doorstep. We exist to bring people together and our unique atmosphere changes hour by hour with each new wave of customers.”

The Pescado Lounge is also set to trade from 9 am to 11 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 12 am on weekends, serving late-night refreshments 7 days a week.

Former Star Inn The Harbour Chef Andrew Pern broke some hearts when he closed the beloved Whitby restaurant making way for the Pescado Lounge. He gave the news just a year after his Michelin-star restaurant Star Inn at Harome was gutted by fire.

Blaming Scarborough’s “greedy” council for a lack of support, at the time Pern acknowledged a multitude of factors that led to the Star Inn The Harbour closure but mostly focused on issues with the council.

The Pescado Lounge is set to open its doors on Thursday 30th May.
