Get 15% off the hotel & restaurant that Giles Coren travelled 504 miles to visit

Tom and Laurissa Heywood, owners of Pignut & The Hare in Scawton, have received a rather complimentary review from The Times’ notoriously outspoken restaurant critic Giles Coren, and you can visit too, with our exclusive 15% off voucher offer.

Known for his sharp wit and unfiltered reviews, Giles Coren visited the restaurant just outside of Helmsley in the quaint North Yorkshire countryside, declaring it a “Bargain of the Century”.

Coren praised the seven-course tasting menu for offering “cooking this careful, this precise, this deeply thought about” at such an accessible price point.

Pignut and The Hare offer, tasting menu dishes

The recognition marks another milestone for the couple, whose restaurant earned a place in the Michelin Guide in January, following an expansion last summer that introduced a collection of cosy bedrooms.

Pignut & The Hare offers a destination dining experience that combines thoughtful cooking, warm hospitality and the charm of a rural Yorkshire retreat.

Tom, recent runner-up to Chef of the Year, leads the kitchen, creating hyper-local and foraged tasting menus, while sommelier Laurisa curates the wine pairings.

The restaurant works closely with a network of small-scale farmers, growers and community projects, including Helmsley Walled Garden, Castle Howard and Otterburn Farm, with a focus on biodiversity and low-impact farming.

Signature touches such as the hand-forged skewers, the 16th Century wooden beams coren descirbed as “hobbity” and Polaroid photographs for guests have quickly become memorable parts of the restaurant’s charming identity.

For those tempted to discover the restaurant for themselves, we offer an exclusive 15% saving on your very own Pignut & The Hare experience.

From considered cooking and carefully paired wines to the intimate, characterful setting that Coren found so charming, it’s an opportunity to discover this North Yorkshire destination at its best.
