SORA York launch Japanese inspired tasting menu

York’s favourite rooftop restaurant, SORA, is thrilled to announce the launch of its brand-new tasting menu, Taste of SORA, an exceptional culinary journey showcasing the very best of Japanese cuisine.
Available on Fridays and Saturdays, this innovative tasting experience explores the restaurant’s standout dishes across three core pillars: sushi, crispy, and robata grill. Offering 12 dishes to share between two for just £45 and optional drink pairings.
The menu features the very best of what SORA is known for, with sushi handcrafted daily by their experienced chefs using traditional methods and the freshest ingredients.

The “crispy” dishes are inspired by the Japanese mobile food carts known as yatai, spotlighting some iconic items such as Korean Fried Cauliflower with gochujang, Tempura Tiger Prawns with sweet chilli, and Katsu Chicken Thigh Bites served with a delightful mango and coconut sauce.
At the heart of the menu is the robata grill, where cooking uses high radiant heat from binchōtan, premium Japanese white charcoal.
This method locks in natural flavours while creating a perfectly tender interior and a smoky, crispy exterior.
Standouts from this section include bold Red Prawns with chilli, lime, and ponzu miso butter; delicate Miso Glazed Black Cod; and the luxurious Grain Fed Wagyu Sirloin Steak, showcasing rich marbling accompanied by caviar, chimichurri, and crispy onions.
To go alongside this showstopping menu, SORA has also curated the perfect drinks pairing available for £25 per person, which includes the refreshing Daiquiri Hills & Valleys Riesling from Clare Valley, Australia, and Les Pivoines Beaujolais Villages from France.
One of the best drinks on the menu is Sora’s signature cocktail, the Shiso Mojito – a take on the classic mojito with a Japanese twist, mixing Yuzushu Sake and Shiso syrup.
But our favourite after-dinner tipple has to be the house-made refreshing liqueur, Citroncello.

Sales and Marketing Manager, Jana Mba, said: “We’re incredibly excited to unveil SORA’s new menu dishes, which celebrate the three foundations of our culinary identity: sushi, crispy dishes and robata grill.
“As York’s only rooftop restaurant and bar, SORA offers guests a truly unique dining experience, pairing bold Pan-Asian flavours with breathtaking views of the iconic York Minster.
“This new menu has been designed to create memorable moments through exceptional food, signature cocktails, outstanding service and one of the best views in the city.”
We’re so excited to take the trip to SORA York and try this menu for ourselves, for an unforgettable evening of exceptional flavours and stunning views.
