Putting the colder winter weather far behind us, it’s time to step into spring and look forward to the month ahead. Of course, Mother’s Day is on the horizon (30th March!), but there’s also plenty of outdoorsy activities to get stuck into.
Plenty is going on in March, whether you’re looking for family-friendly activities – feeding newborn lambs and heading on a spring walk and pub lunch, or date-night foodie experiences and memorable tasting menus.
Things to do in Yorkshire this March
Beer & Cider Festival, Bradford | 27th February – 01 March
At the iconic Victoria Hall, Saltaire, you can join Bradford’s Beer & Cider Festival for a celebration of the best beverages!
The festival is running from 27th February – 1st March 2025, with live jazz and swing music to accompany your new-found favourite pints.
This festival has to be one of the best foodie things to do this weekend in Yorkshire, with plenty of picky food bits too and options for veggies, provided by Binns of Saltaire.

Tractor Run, Knaresborough| 9th March
The Knaresborough tractor run is an exciting annual event for all the family, which supports the incredible work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The annual tractor run winds its way through stunning Yorkshire countryside, through Knaresborough, Harrogate and Pateley Bridge. All volunteers involved are from an agricultural background, and its s a great non-profit, community event to get stuck into.
You can make a day out of visiting Knaresborough, popping into local bakeries and taking a rowing boat on the River Nidd.

Celebrate World Book Day at Ormesby Hall | 8th and 9th March
This World Book Day there are plenty of family-friendly opportunities to celebrate the best of books! With interactive workshops throughout both days, Ormesby Hall is hosting a weekend of storytelling sessions and book-themed crafts.
All weekend you can have access to the house, garden, café and second-hand bookshop, including all of the activities. Entry is completely free, making this a lovely activity and one of our favourite things to do in Yorkshire this month.

Festival of the Outdoors | Throughout March
Sheffield is arguably one of the greenest cities in the UK, so once again the Festival of the Outdoors is back and bigger than ever.
Locals and visitors alike can expect a whole host of outdoor activities to give a go, including stand-up paddleboarding, climbing and canoe taster sessions. Of course, neighbouring the Peak District Sheffield is the perfect city hub to come back to after exploring the great outdoors – by nestling up in a cosy pub or cafe.

Sheffield Beer Week | 10th-16th March
For its 11th year running, Sheffield Beer Week will be celebrating the city’s vibrant culinary scene alongside it’s thriving craft beer industry. You can join in brewery tours and tastings, as well as walking trials and family-friendly fundraising events.
Of course, we have our own favourite stops for a pint in Sheffield we’d recommend you pop into, as well as great restaurants if you’re visiting for the weekend.

Whether it’s rain or shine, there are plenty of Yorkshire countryside walks to choose from. Whether you’re an avid hiker, enjoy a scenic wander or simply need somewhere the kids can let off some steam- one thing we can all agree on is that a long walk is made ten times better if it ends with a pub lunch.
A cold pint and some chips as a pick-me-up, or a full-blown Sunday roast with lashings of gravy, we have most definitely got you covered with our favourite pubs with walks this springtime.
A Taste of Forced Rhubarb | Sunday 16th March
Forcing rhubarb in Yorkshire dates back to 1877, and Yorkshire’s Rhubarb Triangle is a nine-square-mile area between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell.
Celebrating the season, Grantley Hall is launching an exclusive celebration of forced rhubarb, with an innovative six-course culinary collaboration.
You can expect a champagne reception, and a warm welcome from renowned fourth-generation rhubarb grower, Robert Tomlinson. Then, indulge in Michelin-starred dining from Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall.

Cookery classes at The Grand, York | Throughout March
The Grand York Cookery School, located within York’s 5-Star Hotel, offers a tempting selection of 43 classes catering to all kinds of abilities, tastes and ages. The classes are led by Cookery School Director, Marc Williams.
