Unique StrEat Food Festival comes to Harrogate

August bank holiday weekend will see Harrogate’s Valley Gardens come to life with one of the most individual events Yorkshire has ever experienced.
With FIVE zones of some of the finest Street Food, a Teepee dedicated to all things from one of Harrogate’s best restaurants Wild, Craft Beer Teepee, Cocktails, Burlesque Dancers and the wackiest entertainment Harrogate has ever seen, The StrEat Food and Family Fun Festival is the place to be on August Bank holiday.
Street Food
Expect an eclectic collection of traders with food from across the World in a whole host of unusual vehicles, Horseboxes and AirStreams to Citreon H Vans and Campervans. Bright, colourful and full of characters the hand selected Street Food Traders will add a flash of colour, exotica, tastes and smells to the normally tranquil Valley Gardens.
Ice Cream, Waffles, Artisan Burgers, Paella, Mac n Cheese, Ghanian, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Vegan, Wood Fired Pizza, Polish, Caribbean, Bao Buns, Mexican and more… hungry yet?!
Wild Teepee Takeover
Critically acclaimed Chef Jim Key from Harrogate restaurant Wild and a ­finalist in the TV series ‘The Great British Dish’ will be taking on a field kitchen on his own terms and is setting his sights and standards as high as ever. With Key at the pass, Wild will redefine the ­festival dining experience. The focus will be on using local innovative ingredients, unusual flavours and dishes that surprise and excite the diner. Simple, clean, seasonal and inspiring are some of the words that describe the dishes on offer.
From 6.30-9pm each evening Jim Key will be transferring his hugely successful and unexpected experimental menu from his kitchen at Wild to the Wild TeePee. The premise is simple – you book your ticket, you take your seat and whatever has been foraged or the latest ingredients to have been delivered will be transformed into a totally unique and original dish.

Cocktails & Craft Beer
Wild will also be hosting a spectacular cocktail TeePee located right next to the main bandstand and you can also experience a Teepee dedicated to Craft Beer from Rudgate Brewery.
Absinthe & Lace will be bringing some of the UK’s best Burlesque and Cabaret performers, Fire Dancers, and LED Performers to the main band stand and Monday night’s closing party will have Burlesque Dancers in the Rudgate Brewery Teepee.
    
Entertainment
The entertainment is what makes this festival truly unique, bringing an exciting and interactive atmosphere with the most wacky and unique performers, some of which England has never seen before and better yet it is all free!
Throughout the day you can visit their Water Spa, it’s quirky, it’s fun, it’s relaxing… Ever seen a wheelbarrow double as a lazy chair? Well you will and you’ll love it! Take a load off in one of the wheelbarrow loungers, let the mobile kettle cart run you up a warm foot bath!
Have a tree hug with some amazing real life Hedge Men – The Living Topiary! Straight from the pages of a fairy story these human shaped bushes have come to life to walk, talk and cuddle their way around leading events worldwide.

Their SplatOMatic machine will keep children entertained and amused on his unique Splat O Matic Bicycle. Children will be able to create their own artworks with physical activity, bright colours and wonderment. Add your paint to the machine and watch your art come to life…
There will also be a human gift box, waiting patiently for children to approach, trying to discover what’s inside… But one touch and he runs away…
  
Swoolish will be bringing their 1966 Vesper which has old iron bath tub on wheels attached to it so kids can jump in with their swimming costumes and ride around the festival equipped with water pistols!
The Bagdhaddies brass band have been astounding audiences throughout Europe with their traditional European and world musical styles of all eras. They will be wandering around the festival interacting with the crowd. Their presence guarantees an uplifting day and evening.

As the sun goes down and the fairy lights come on and our fantastic DJ Swoolish takes over the bandstand. He’ll be chilling in his vintage living room with his decks and vinyls to deliver you the warm sounds of Jazz, Exotica, Swing Rhythm and vintage records – from his sofa!
Event Organiser Cathy McConaghy who has worked hundreds of amazing festivals with her 1959 campervan Lulabelle said:

“I used to come back after events on a Sunday night and think to myself that Harrogate is missing out on all the amazing and passionate street food traders and entertainers! I wanted to create an event that celebrates independents and outdoor events, to show people what they are missing. I have cherry picked the best of the best to knock the socks off Harrogate! I want families to have a good time, relax on the bean bags and decks chairs, chill listening to the music, kids to enjoy the unique entertainment, eat, drink and roll home happy!”
