7-Course Asian Inspired Tasting Menu | Wood Hall Hotel & Spa Review

Wood Hall Hotel and Spa, Wetherby | Review
One of Yorkshire’s award-winning country escapes, Wood Hall Hotel & Spa in Wetherby, a space that promises comfort, tranquillity and an outstanding dining experience with every stay.
This luxury retreat combines the classic beauty of old country homes with the peaceful, rural surroundings of the Yorkshire landscape.
Wood Hall Hotel is renowned for being a perfect haven to recharge in the spa or live a life of luxury in one of their many beautiful rooms. But did you know its also home to one of the region’s most talented chefs?

Head Chef Shane Zhao
Chef Shane is one of the strong leading women in Yorkshire’s hospitality industry. Bringing a slice of her Asian heritage to the region.
Her career made its start in Australia as she travelled from her home in China to Melbourne to study a 2-year commercial culinary course. Since 2009, she has worked in kitchens all across the world, landing her at Yorkshire’s very own Wood Hall Hotel & Spa as their new Head Chef in June 2022.
Passing on her knowledge to the next generation, Shane most recently supported and mentored the ‘Future Chef of the Year’ Award 2024, in which her young chef came second place out of 13,000 students to take part.

Chef Experience Tasting Menu
Her wealth of experience has led to the ‘Chef Experience’ tasting menu that takes customers on a delicious culinary journey with each mouthful. Served inside their impressive 2AA Rosette award-winning Georgian Restaurant, the carefully crafted 7-courses will undoubtedly make this one of the top 5 meals you’ve ever eaten.
Inspired by Asian culture and her love for cooking from a young age with her mum, Shane has specially designed a modern tasting menu that perfectly blends Yorkshire produce with bold Asian flavours – think fresh truffle, sumptuous pork cheek and spiced clementine.
Taking pride in their farm-to-fork ethos, Shane Zhao and the team at Wood Hall strive to use local suppliers to feature only the very best produce in their menus all year round.
Head Chef Shane shares her favourite course with us; “It would have to be the Lobster Ravioli with Thai Curry Lobster Bisque” – and yes, it tastes even better than it sounds.

When deciding what features on her menus, she allows different flavours from around the globe to take over so customers can experience an exciting palate, seamlessly blending flavours into dishes to tell a story.
For those of us with a serious sweet tooth, the black forest chocolate lava, cherry and milk ice cream make an excellent finale to a perfect dinner.

The ideal place to spend a romantic evening, celebrating any occasion, or simply because you love to try something new – Wood Hall should be at the top of your list. Get there quick, before Michelin do.
