Giant York Maze Marks 30 years of Toy Story

Yorkshire farmer Tom Pearcy has cut over 5km of pathways into his 15-acre York Maze field of over a million maize (corn) plants, to create the world’s biggest Toy Story characters marking 30 years since the film was first released in 1995.

The biggest maze in Europe

Covering an area the size of 8 Wembley football pitches, York Maze is believed to be the biggest maze in Europe and one of the largest in the world. When viewed from the air, this year’s York Maze design features giant images of four Toy Story characters: Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex the dinosaur, and Mr Potato Head. At up to 150m tall, they are believed to be the biggest Toy Story images ever made! If you’re looking for things to do in Yorkshire, this experience is not to be missed.

Says Tom Pearcy, “I can’t believe it’s 30 years since Toy Story was first released. The characters are loved by children and adults alike so it makes a great theme for our giant corn maze, which can be enjoyed by all ages. Toy Story was the first full-length animated film created using computer-generated imagery (CGI). I also use a form of CGI to create the maze design before transferring it into the latest GPS technology to plot out the design in the corn field.”
