Potting Shed Harrogate Review – Harrogate Restaurants –

Potting Shed Harrogate Review

With some big changes in the hospitality industry in recent months together with a number of long-standing restaurants from award-winning indies and the big corporate chains closing their doors, to go and spend over £1M on a previously vacant nightclub may sound like a risky venture in the stunning spa town of Harrogate. As everyone knows though, location is one of the main factors in success and the group behind The Potting Shed have been busy working their way around the region souring the perfect locations to expand the group. The old Rift & Co nightclub in Harrogate’s Turkish Baths is the latest Potting Shed, bringing their trademark style of botanical glamour to one of the Town’s most iconic locations while restoring the building to its former glory.

Absolutely no expense has been spared to create a fun and inviting space, though not to diminish the original features of the Turkish Bath’s huge domed ceilings and stained glass windows.  The venue caters for all types with booth seating, private dining areas, Potting Shed signature indoor sheds together with a stunning garden area outside for some al fresco dining.

Onto the food next, if it’s fine dining you’re after then you’ve come to the wrong place. The menu caters for all types, with lighter bites, salads, burgers and pizzas to gastropub classics and Sunday roasts. The portions are huge so if your looking for a real feed than this is definitely the place to come. We opted for the tasty Shed Chicken Kebab, served on a garlic infused flatbread, piled high with minty chopped salad and a healthy dose of sweet chilli sauce. Keeping it Potting Shed themed, we also went for the ‘Gnomes Revenge’ a mammoth beast of a burger. Two beef patties, pizza sauce, pepperoni slices, cheddar cheese and streaky bacon in a brioche bun. The burger wasn’t half-bad and I was pleasantly surprised by the pepperoni bacon and cheese combo flavours but the actual patties seemed a bit under seasoned.

There’s a very impressive selection of drinks on offer to cater for everyone’s tastes, with local and craft ales, wine and prosecco, but it’s the cocktails that really got our taste buds going. With some well-known classics having a Potting Shed makeover, together with their own signature serves and a good portion of the menu available at 2 for £12 from Sunday to Thursday.

Is it really the weekend without a few midday cocktails? We couldn’t leave without sampling the drinks menu and happy we did too. The pink petal came with a sharp citrus hit of grapefruit together with some nice floral elderflower notes, a happy accident that it went down pretty well with the Shed kebab.

With the food choice already decided it was now the task of what cocktail goes with a juicy burger. The obvious choice of a boozy milkshake went down a treat. With milk, cream, coconut puree, strawberry puree, white rum and pineapple juice to make a very good strawberry colada.

The Potting Shed ethos is for everyone to come and enjoy themselves, families and dogs too. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea when the next table’s German Shepherd comes over for a nosey but there’s plenty of space to enjoy date night or mates night in this impressive venue. With a lot of uncertainty in the restaurant world currently, we think The Potting Shed’s ethos should do them well with a place for everyone to enjoy come night or day in one of Harrogate’s most iconic locations.
