Bao Lovers Rejoice as Aiyo Opens in Leeds

Since Little Bao Boy started trading in April 2017, they have come a long way and have worked their way around some fantastic venues in Leeds and the North.
Their first events started at Leeds popular gin bar The Hedonist Project. However, as the pop up became more popular, you could catch them at events as big as Leeds Beer Festival.
James Ooi, owner of Little Bao Boy lives in Leeds, but originates from Middlesbrough, you will often see the food pop up attending events such as Orange Pip Market located in Middlesbrough. The pop up originated from James’ Chinese culture (inherited from his father) and love of Chinese food. He grew up learning to cook from a young age, and wanted to bring Chinese food up to speed, to meet the needs of the modern foodie world.
James said “It’s amazing how quickly the business has grown, we had such a busy summer and are already getting booked up for weddings, private events and food festivals for 2018”.

The food pop up serves fluffy, freshly steamed bao buns, all made by hand, by James. The pop up sells food that is fun and fresh, with many new dishes to come in the new year. Bao Buns are common in London and in the past year have become more popular in Leeds too (we will thank Little Bao Boy for that).

The most exciting news this year for Little Bao Boy is their new restaurant, Aiyo. This restaurant and concept was formed with James, and one of the previous owners of Boss Burgers. Aiyo Leeds is located in the old Boss Burgers location and has had a full refurbishment. The aim of the restaurant was to cater to all kinds of foodies, whether it be meat eaters, vegetarians or Vegans. In addition they wanted to make the food affordable for all consumers.
James said “The food industry has changed. People care about where their food comes from and what they are putting into their bodies, which is why we want to cater to everyone’s dietary needs in the new restaurant”
This modern restaurant takes inspiration from James’s upbringing and the traditional Chinese food he used to eat, with a more contemporary take on some of the ingredients. Traditional Chinese food such as Congi, and soup Noodles can be found on the menu (both vegan). As well as some firm favourites such as salt and pepper chips, drizzled in Sriracha mayo!
“We can’t wait to see what this year brings, and are so excited about Aiyo. There are lots of exciting things in the pipeline for Little Bao Boy this year, and we can’t wait to share it with you!”
