The Bradfield Plough, Sheffield – Bradfield Circular

Nestled between the hills of Bradfield, The Plough is our family-friendly pick, with a varied menu that will have something for everyone.

Their menu includes ‘Steak & Ale Pie’, ‘Toad in the Hole’, or ‘Hunters Chicken’, the moreish dishes we all know and love, washed down with a pint. Walks nearby will help you work up an appetite, with longer two-hour routes such as Damflask Reservoir, or shorter village wonders.

The Plough, Scalby – Cleveland Way Walk

If you’re looking for a good feed after a trip to the coast, then The Plough in Scalby is a great option. The recently renovated Garden Lounge offers a cosy setting to get warmed up and get stuck into some hearty food.

If it’s a roast you are after, then pick a ‘Mushroom Gruyere & Cashew Nut Roast’, or a ‘Topside of Roast Beef’, served with seasonal vegetables, crisp roast potatoes and lashings of gravy of course.

Just outside the coastal town of Scarbrough, visitors can explore the Cleveland Way National Trail, which offers you 109 miles of Yorkshire’s best scenery, and return to The Plough for a well-earned feast.

Red Lion, Burnsall – Janet’s Foss & Malham Tarn

Overlooking Wharfdale, The Red Lion is a homely base for exploring the green landscape and neighbouring Yorkshire villages.

The interior of this pub retains a traditional English feel, and dogs are also invited into the relaxed bar area. In the restaurant, expect pies with chunky chips, a warming casserole or fresh fish with buttered greens.

Filled with local history and artefacts, the Craven Arms at Appletreewick is brimming with character and atmosphere. Just up the hill from the Wharfe & Dales Way, the views are something to see, rain or shine.

In their garden, The Craven Arms grow as much of their own herbs as possible, freshly picked and used in their traditional pub favourites.

You can even book an overnight stay in one of their three shepherd’s huts to immerse yourself in nature and escape the modern world for a night.

Cod and Lobster, Staithes – Runswick Bay

Staithes, a sleepier coastal town compared to the bustle of Whitby and Scarborough, is home to the Cod and Lobster. A real gem when it comes to Yorkshire pubs with walks, with seashore views, it’s a welcome sight after a windy coastal walk from Runswick Bay.

We’d go for the fresh seafood on offer, ‘Pan fried seabass’ or, of course, the infamous ‘Cod and Lobster’ itself.

They do get busy, especially during the school holidays – so plan ahead.

The Fleece, Addingham – Bradford

Our next pick is The Fleece in Addingham, Bradford. This Yorkshire pub is full of character, with open fires and a traditional tap room making it a lovely spot to end a Spring walk.

Addingham village sits in the valley of the River Wharfe, only one mile from the Yorkshire Dales National Park, ideal if you’re after a bike ride or a quieter walk.

The Fleece prides themselves on their fresh seafood dishes, and you’ll need to check their chalkboard for the ‘catch of the day’ special.

The Hermit Inn, Burley Woodhead –  Ilkley

On the edge of Ilkley Moor sits The Hermit Inn, a warm and friendly pub that offers something to please everyone. They plate up British classics, hearty pies and mash and moreish puddings.

You can find lots of routes that end at The Hermit, with the Menston route offering a gentle walk with countryside views, taking only 40 minutes.
