Mowgli Street Food Sheffield Set to Open its Ecclesall Road Doors this April

Showcasing food from the homes and streets of India, a million miles away from the ‘curry’ stereotype. Healthy dishes, often vegan and packed with fresh flavours. From ‘Green Ginger & Rhubarb Dahl’ to ‘Bunny Chow’, a South African Indian railway worker’s favourite of fruity and hot chicken and potato curry served inside a bread loaf. View Menu. Plus, there’ll be full menus dedicated to gluten-free and vegan dishes.

“We have many followers in Sheffield who are calling for the smash and grab of the Mowgli home kitchen” says founder and Indian Food writer Nisha Katona. “We are not everyone’s cup of tea, but we go where our consumers and followers want us.”
The former barrister turned restaurateur added, “Sheffield is the home town of my Aunt and Uncle- Aunty Geeta of the prawn curry! Many of my childhood memories are of eating mint choc chip ice cream adulterated with green Cardamom in their lounge in Kingfield Road around the corner from Ecclesall Road.”
Mowgli, founded 2014, currently operates two sites in its home city of Liverpool, two sites in Manchester, and one each in Birmingham, Oxford and Nottingham with further openings planned in Leicester and Cardiff this year. Owner Nisha is a food writer who has featured in a number of national publications such as the Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times, has her own YouTube cooking channel, three cookery books and regularly appears on TV and radio.
Nisha said: “I can’t tell you the deep joy and purpose it gives me to be able to go back to cities that I loved as part of my northern childhood landscape and honour them in any small way I can. With a homely eatery, jobs in a joy-filled place of work and imperfect as it might be, the food of my home hearth…the Mowgli menu. All that that I can, I give. Sheffield may we serve you well as employers and feed you well, as your humble neighbourhood Indian home kitchen.”
A very exciting addition to Sheffield’s ever-expanding and diverse dining scene. Bookings are now available via email at emily@mowglistreetfood.com.
