Yorkshire restaurant gains Michelin recommendation in just 6-months

Just six months after their initial opening, The Owl at Hawnby country pub has been added to the Michelin Guide & Good Food Guide.

Chef Sam Varley, who previously ran the much-loved Batham restaurant in Hemsley, runs this successful Yorkshire Inn.

Sam Varley said: ‘‘We only opened here at the end of November last year, so we are really pleased to get this recognition. I have a wonderful team supporting me and they must take huge credit for what we have achieved so far.’’

Located near Hemsley and overlooking the North York Moors National Park, this hidden gem is becoming a new favorite for those seeking delicious pub food.

The Owl’s menu highlights include aged beef fillet tartare with crispy shallots and bone marrow toast, moules-frites or roast monkfish. For dessert choose a pistachio & olive oil sponge with sweet Yorkshire strawberries and a dollop of Chantilly cream.

The Michelin Guide said: ‘‘There’s a vintage style to the décor and a lovely, welcoming vibe thanks to the friendly team. Hearty, unfussy, and downright tasty dishes are the order of the day.’’

The Owl at Hawnby also has 9 en suite bedrooms available for those seeking a restful mini-break, as well as a bar and outside terrace for the warmer months.

Chef Sam Varley thanked the local community for their enormous support.

The Telegraph praised The Owl at Hawnby too, naming it as one of the ‘best 12th restaurants in Yorkshire’ in their most recent guide.

Surrounded by lots of popular walking routes, viewing spots and woodland, it’s a lovely rural spot to retreat to after a busy day of exploring.

The Owl at Hawnby is open Wednesday to Sunday, early bookings are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
