Hotels & restaurants re-opening in Yorkshire this month
Get the latest updates on the pubs, hotels and restaurants re-opening in Yorkshire. Plus which of our favourite dining destinations have announced their re-opening dates so far.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for, hotels and restaurants in Yorkshire re-opening. UK PM Boris Johnson tells MPs that restaurants, pubs and hotels will reopen in England from 4 July with the two-metre social distancing rule reduced to one-metre plus.
UK hospitality, the trade industry body has said the move could increase many businesses capacity from 30 – 60% and could support the way for restaurants and hotels to re-open for guests in the third stage of lifting the lockdown.
Along with the recent announcement that the social distancing measures will be reduced, the government is expected to provide “covid-secure” safety direction for businesses reopening.
The government is also planning a new law making it easier for pubs, restaurants and cafes to serve people outside. This could mean every pub, bar and restaurant will be automatically entitled to serve alcohol for people to drink on the pavement and in the street. The new legislation will be introduced in parliament later this week.
Restaurant owners will be required to place strict limits on the number of people they allow in to ensure social distancing is observed. They will also be encouraged to use reservations to stagger bookings. A temporary record will now be kept of all customers for 21 days so those who visit can be contacted if there has been a localised outbreak of Covid-19.
Upon arrival, tables will be spaced widely apart, napkins and cutlery will be brought out with food. Laminated menus will be replaced with single-use, disposable menus and condiments will be served in sachets on request.
Plates will be cleared by staff wearing gloves at the very least and waiters will be asked to wash their hands each time they serve a different table. Contactless payment will be also be encouraged.
The government guidance states that people should only visit a restaurant in their household groups (or support bubbles), or with one other household, or with up to five other people outdoors. Further guidance coming soon.
Doormen will remind new arrivals that they must observe social distancing and receptionists will take a couple of steps back when guests check-in. Porters will still be able to carry bags to guests’ rooms but will have to leave them outside. Rather than taking the lift, people will be encouraged to use the stairs.
Pubs & Bars
No bar service will be allowed and establishments will have to offer table service. A one-way system may be implemented to reduce congestion, manage queues and minimise contact between customers.
