When esteemed French restaurant Le Cochon Aveugle opened up a Parisian style wine bar just a stones throw away you know it’s THE must go place when in York. This small but pretty wine bar features over 60 wines from across the World – and more than 30 by the glass, with a focus on bio-dynamic and organic wines from the best independent and small producers. Aside from their incredible drinks selection the menu also features a delicious range of charcuterie and cheeses brought straight from France and Corsica each week. They also have bar snacks and nibbles such as olives to black pudding scotch eggs and game and pear terrine, plus the most amazing cheese fondue.
On our recent visit we were absolutely blown away from the hospitality of the staff. Ian their highly knowledgeable wine buff asked us about our favourite wines, letting us sample a few of his recommendations before choosing a glass. Dave their in house foodie connoisseur then expertly paired a delicious board of meats, cheeses and their homemade sourdough to go with our chosen wines.
Sat in Cave du Cochon drinking our wine and nibbling on our charcuterie felt like being transported to the Champs-Élysées minus the air fare. With such an incredible selection of the best wines and charcuterie this side of the English channel we can’t wait to return to work our way through the rest of the menu.
