New Scran Restaurant Opens within Harrogate’s Iconic Yorkshire Hotel

Located in the heart of Harrogate, just opposite Betty’s infamous Tea Room stands the impressive Yorkshire Hotel. Recently taken over by the HRH Group who have a number of AA Rosette award-winning restaurants and four and five star rated hotels under their quintessential belts.

The Yorkshire Hotel, built in 1818 by one of Harrogate’s founding fathers will be the largest in their group, standing tall with its Victorian façade, an incredible rooftop view of the town and 81 bedrooms. The HRH group will be giving this stunning building a little TLC to restore its former glory.

Scran restaurant and bar is headed up by Executive Chef Dean Sowden, previously of Harrogate’s longstanding Deano’s Graze and Grill before he sold the business last year. Dean cut his teeth at the age of 16, working alongside Michelin Starred Chef Simon Gueller at ‘Millers’ in Harrogate. He then continued his culinary journey in many well-established restaurants throughout Yorkshire such as Rascasse and Harvey Nichols in Leeds, picking up numerous accolades along the way.

Scran (a term used for food generally in the north of England) will serve contemporary British cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, such as their beef from R&J Butchers at Kirkby Malzeard, Yorkshire blue cheese and Three Little Pigs Yorkshire chorizo. With a focus on small plates, diners can taste various mouth-watering dishes encouraging sharing and a taste of different flavours. Their a la carte menu is split into Quick Scran, Surf, Turf, and Earth with dishes such as Crispy Brie ‘Popcorn’ with Strawberry Relish, Cajun Grilled Sea Bass Tacos and Harrisa Spiced Butternut Squash Falafel Sliders in Brioche buns. Indecisive? Chef’s Scran consists of nibbles and 5 courses of scran signature sharing plates for the table. Their Bar Menu follows the same small plates root with 3 for £16 and indulgent burger such as their ‘Fat Badger’ burger, a nod to their sister restaurant, with smoked cheese, pancetta, dill pickle and burger sauce served in a toasted brioche bun. Yum.

Opening 30th March 2018, we can see this being another Harrogate favourite, celebrating local Yorkshire suppliers and good honest food in stunning surroundings.
