Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall Completes Kino Summer Series

Award-winning food writer and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is appearing at a special event in Leeds this September rounding off a summer of top food events as part of their staycation festival.
The dinner and conversation evening will take place at Kino in Leeds, on Wednesday 4 September.
An expertly designed meal focuses on the best sustainably sourced and seasonal British produce, uniquely crafted for the evening by Hugh and the top team of chefs at one of the best restaurants in Leeds, Kino.
The meal will be introduced by Hugh himself, in conversation with fellow chef and restauranteur Jason Shaw.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is a multi-award-winning cook, food writer and broadcaster.
The face of The River Cottage TV series and books centred around farm-to-fork and sustainably sourced cooking, he established River Cottage HQ in Dorset in 2004.
His hard-hitting and influential TV campaigns have tackled issues related to food production and the environment, and his broadcasting has earned him a BAFTA as well as accolades from Radio 4, The Observer and the Guild of Food Writers. Hugh’s latest book is How To Eat 30 Plants A Week.
Josh Whitehead, Head Chef at Kino, says: “Working on this series of events as part of the Staycation Festival with such incredible chefs and writers is such an exciting experience for me.
I’ve been chatting to Hugh about the potential menu for his event, and a few of his food memories are weirdly similar to mine.
There are a couple of dishes on there that have come from my memories of watching River Cottage when I was young – it all just sounds like food you really want to eat!”
The event is the last in a hugely successful series of the staycation festival which has seen such culinary luminaries as Marco Pierre White, Bee Wilson, Angela Clutton and Nigel Slater discussing their inspirations, memorable food experiences and some of the unforgettable dishes they have encountered during their travels while presenting a bespoke menu co-created with the chefs at Kino.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s menu includes such seasonal treats as Cornish Mackerel roasted with Bay Leaves and served with Seaweed Salsa Verde and Organic Radishes or, for vegetarians and vegans, Early Autumn Vegetable & Girolle Pie.
Bramble & Apple Crumble Tart with Clotted Cream & Damson Ice Cream completes the feast.
Kino is an indie restaurant and bar in the cultural heart of Leeds. Its seasonal menu is a little bit French, a lot British, and Yorkshire through and through.
Think classic dishes reimagined, made from scratch by award-winning chefs using the best local and wild produce and served in stylish Grade II-listed surroundings.
Part of Opera North, Kino is situated on New Briggate next to the beautiful Leeds Grand Theatre.
More information, menus and tickets to all staycation festival events can be found on the Opera North website.
