Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat on your lunch break, or fancy an all out sit-down meal at one of the best sushi spots in Leeds, you’re spoilt for choice with the city’s vast choice of Japanese restaurants.

Sushi in Leeds - Sushi Nakamura interior

Sushi Nakamura

For one of the fancier sushi spots in Leeds, check out Sushi Nakamura. Take a seat at the chef’s table and let chef Nakamura take you on a culinary journey to Japan with his Omakase course (over £150 per person but so worth it for the experience), the only available menu.

All ingredients used are locally sourced to get a taste of the best Yorkshire seafood as you are guided through some of the finest pieces of sushi in the city. If you’re looking for an authentic sushi experience (and the best sake in the UK outside of London), this is the spot to visit for one of the best restaurants in Leeds.

Sushi in Leeds - Sushiwaka grilled sushi

If you’re looking for a more casual sushi spot in Leeds, Sushiwaka is definitely one we recommend. Their huge menu features over 8 different types of sushi including a range of signature rolls from their Hot Ninja rolls with crab, tuna and spicy sauce, to Unagi Cheese Rolls with soft cheese and avocado. There are even sushi donuts and burritos on the menu if you fancy something different for your next sushi fix! Sushiwaka should be top of your list if you’re looking for some fun sushi in Leeds.

Sushi in Leeds - Sakku sushi platters

There’s quite a few all you can eat Japanese themed sushi restaurants in Leeds, but Sakku is easily one of the more premium spots. Specialising in authentic Japanese cuisine, Sakku lets you order from a menu of 150 dishes, all from the comfort of a tablet at your table. Choose from a variety of sushi dishes including fresh Nigiri, Gunkan, Sashimi and Futomaki. There’s also an A La Carte menu on offer if you’re looking for a lighter option.

Blue Sakura interior

Blue Sakura

Similar to Sakku, Blue Sakura also offers a more boujee all-you-can-eat style of service to the city. Specialising in Japanese-style tapas, you can order as many dishes as you like for a set price from sushi dishes to a variety of grills.

Known for its impressive décor, Blue Sakura is also the perfect date night spot, with cherry blossom appearing throughout its interior and plenty of ambient lighting. Some of their specials include Torched Nigiri, Maki Rolls and Uramaki inside-out rolls. It’s another fantastic choice for some of the best sushi in Leeds.

Maki and Ramen Leeds interior

Maki and Ramen

Recently opened in Leeds, Maki and Ramen is making a name for itself as easily one of the best sushi restaurants in Leeds. Founder Teddy Lee began Maki and Ramen in 2015, wanting to bring a taste of Japan to the UK to help make Japanese food more accessible.

Now he owns seven branches dishing up delicious Asian plates across the country. While ramen is their main speciality, their sushi dishes are also next-level. They offer everything from classic Salmon Avocado Rolls to Grilled Scallop Nigiri and Seared Steak Tataki.

Little Tokyo interior

Little Tokyo

A “Japanese Restaurant with Yorkshire Roots”, Little Tokyo has been providing Leeds with some of the best sushi dishes for over 20 years. All of their sushi and sashimi dishes are made from ingredients fresh from local markets, for the chefs to craft the perfect Nigiri or Maki Rolls from.

To truly recreate an authentic Japanese dining experience, the restaurant’s interior even features a koi carp pond with real koi fish! You can also enjoy your sushi the true Japanese way, with low seating options available for diners.

The Ivy Asia - Best Restaurants in Leeds

The Ivy Asia

Situated in the Victoria Quarter, The Ivy Asia is a fantastic option if you feel like treating yourself to some delicious sushi in Leeds. As well as their stunning décor, The Ivy Asia also offers a plethora of pan-Asian dishes for you to share with your nearest and dearest.

Treat yourself to some Salmon 3 Ways Nigiri or an Ivy ‘Volcano’ Roll with wagyu beef, tuna and black truffle. They also offer The Ivy Asia Experience Menu with a range of sushi dishes both meaty and vegetarian, perfect for special occasions.

Sushi in Leeds - Fuji Hiro sushi

Fuji Hiro

Another Japanese restaurant veteran, Fuji Hiro first opened its doors in 1997 as one of the first of its kind in Leeds. Now almost 30 years later, business is still booming for the restaurant situated in the Merrion Centre.

People are drawn back again and again not only by their sushi but also by the intimate and friendly vibe that has been created there. Fuji Hiro offers all of your conventional sushi rolls but also some pretty good specials as well. Their chef selection rolls feature a Fuji Dragon roll with king prawn tempura and eel as well as their Rainbow Roll featuring seven different types of fish all in one roll!

Senbon Sakura interior

Senbon Sakura

Situated on the edge of the city centre lies Senbon Sakura, a sushi hidden gem in Leeds. The restaurant interior alone will make you feel like you’re in the heart of Tokyo. They have a range of fresh sushi rolls on their menu including a huge range of sushi platters from Rainbow Sets and whole Vegetarian Sets including Asparagus and Avocado Maki. For something slightly more filling, they also offer a fresh Sashimi Donburi with fish, salad and sushi rice all in one bowl.

Sushi in Leeds - Tada sushi bento box

This sushi hotspot in Leeds is well worth the slight trip out of the city centre. Situated in Headingley, the newly opened Tada has made an impression on Japanese cuisine in the city. Upstairs, they’ve created a vibrant Japanese dining area while downstairs features an authentic Japanese sushi bar. Dine on a range of sushi plates, from Fatty Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi to Hamachi Japanese Yellowtail. If you’re feeling extra fancy, give their A5 Wagyu with Caviar Special Nigiri a try.
