The Grand York Boss is running 5K a day for Hospitality Action

The General Manager of The Grand, York is swapping hotel corridors for running routes this October, taking on a 155km challenge to raise money for Hospitality Action.
Adam Dyke will run 5K every day throughout October, raising funds and awareness for the charity, which supports current and former hospitality workers across the UK.
The challenge is particularly impressive given that just a year ago, Adam couldn’t complete a 5K without stopping. He can now cover the distance in under 30 minutes.
For Adam, though, it’s about more than improving his running time. He sees plenty of parallels between running and hospitality – both require consistency, resilience and showing up, even when you’re tired.
Adam said: “In a way, running and hospitality have a lot in common. You have to keep showing up even when you feel tired, and you see improvement through consistency.

“The industry can be demanding, but it has so much to give. It’s given me so much, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Throughout October, Adam is inviting hospitality workers and colleagues from across York to join him, whether that’s for a run, jog or walk.
On Saturday 10 October, marking World Mental Health Day, Adam will be joined by colleagues from The Grand, York at Poppleton Parkrun, with others from York’s hospitality community invited to take part.
“Hospitality Action does incredible work for people in our industry,” says Adam. “If this challenge can help raise some money while also encouraging a few people to get moving or talk about their own experiences, it will absolutely be worth it.”
Mark Lewis, Chief Executive of Hospitality Action, added: “Running 5K every day for an entire month is a fantastic feat of endurance, particularly alongside the demands of running a busy hotel.
