Foodie rescue mission saves the day for those snowed at UK’s highest pub

The Tan Hill Inn in Swaledale remains completely snowed in, as our Yorkshire Dales continues to be hit by freezing temperatures.
Call it a lucky coincidence or a living nightmare – 29 stranded patrons had an unexpected lock-in at Tan Hill Inn for a whopping 72 hours due to a week of snowy blizzards and windy conditions.
This Inn is Britain’s highest public house, at 1,732 feet above sea level, meaning once bad weather hits, their doors often become snowed in.
To The Tan Hill Inn and let it all blow over
Whilst snow ploughs could escort some to safety, ten people remained stuck at the Inn yesterday.
Those stranded included two guests from Germany, unable to flee when the weather conditions worsened. Barmaid at The Tan Hill Inn, Kelly, even had to miss her daughter’s 18th Birthday.
But, despite the owner’s careful and thoughtful preparation of having stocked up on supplies (other than alcohol) yesterday, occupants began to run out.

Luckily beloved supermarket Aldi came to the rescue and took on the mission, hiring a local Wensleydale farmer to supply those stranded with necessities – Malbec and sausages.
Those at the pub have thanked the supermarket chain for their generous gift of comfort food and drink.
In true Yorkshire style, morale remains high, and The Tan Hill Inn has been posting regular updates on their Facebook.
The popular public house dates back to the 17th century, and attracts visitors year-round for their seasonal produce and real ales.
The Tan Hill Inn offers a range of cosy suites to stay in too, many of which are pup-friendly.
With rustic exposed beams, stone-flagged floors and a roaring fire, it’s a proper traditional Yorkshire Inn, surrounded by scenic walks and stunning countryside to explore.

For now, however, there certainly won’t be much exploring, and it will be back to the board games & books for those still awaiting an escape route.
It’s hopeful that, depending on the weather, the pub will reopen today for eager regulars and visitors.
