Yorkshire pubs make top 100 in the UK
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>
The Good Food Guide has just unveiled its second-ever list of the UK’s Top 100 Pubs. Yorkshire may have claimed the top spot last year, but we’re still celebrating, with five of our finest making this year’s cut.
From stylish city-centre spots to thatched-roof country inns and Michelin-starred destinations, it’s fantastic to see Yorkshire’s pub scene getting the national recognition it deserves.
Take a look at who made the list, and where to plan your next visit. After all, it is pub season.
Yorkshire’s contribution to the Top 100 Pubs in the UK
No.3 Highland Laddie
Having claimed the top spot last year, less than a year after opening, it was only fair to let someone else have their moment. The Highland Laddie, Leeds’ busiest pub, has landed an impressive spot in the top three – and quite rightly so.
We’re big fans. Think proper pub atmosphere with a wonderfully intimate feel, paired with a menu cooked over flames and designed to take you back in time – in the very best way. It’s exactly what a great pub should be.
Where? 38 Cavendish St, Leeds LS3 1LY
No.10 The Abbey Inn, Byland
Providing the second of two Yorkshire pubs in the top ten is The Abbey Inn, a country pub with plenty of pedigree. Part of the Tommy Banks Group, it brings the same hyper-local, sustainable approach to a more relaxed pub setting, with produce grown and reared on the family farm taking the lead.
Expect proper country pub charm, thoughtful cooking and a menu that makes the most of what’s on the doorstep. One for a leisurely lunch that turns into a longer afternoon, we’d say.
Where? The Abbey Inn, York YO61 4BD
No.39 The Star Inn at Harome
Michael Pern’s iconic thatched-roof landmark, The Star at Harome, secured 39th place and, with a roll call of accolades including a Michelin star and AA Restaurant of the Year, it’s hardly a surprise to see it recognised.
Here, classic French culinary techniques meet the very best of Yorkshire produce, resulting in a menu that has earned the pub a loyal following and plenty of attention well beyond the county. A Yorkshire institution, and one very worthy of its place on the list.
Where? Main St, Harome, Harome, near Helmsley YO62 5JE

No.55 The General Tarleton
Another pub from the Tommy Banks empire, The General Tarleton is one of our favourites. With its welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful cooking and a real appreciation for the finer details, it’s a favourite for a reason.
From its much-loved Sunday lunches to the now-famous sourdough treacle tart by Aled Williams, this is the sort of pub that gets the little things very right. And frankly, we’re always looking for an excuse to go back.
Where? Boroughbridge Rd, Ferrensby, Knaresborough HG5 0PZ
No.99 Fylingdales Inn
Newcomer to the Yorkshire pub scene, The Fylingdales Inn only opened its doors in July, making its place on the list all the more impressive. This welcoming village pub is already making a name for itself, bringing a fresh lease of life to the North Yorkshire coast.
Proof that you don’t need decades of history to make an impression, this is one you must add to the list for your next trip to the coast.
Where? Thorpe Ln, Fylingthorpe, Whitby YO22 4TH
