Waterfront Festival & British Street Food Awards team up to bring Leeds waterways to life
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>This weekend will be host to the 9th Year of the Leeds Waterfront Festival, a jam packed festival that takes place across 8 sites each hosting a mix of music, performance, art and of course incredible food and drink.
As part of the festival the British Street Food Awards are bringing their Scotland and the North heats to Leeds Dock where you can taste and vote for your favourite from a line-up of 15 innovative street food traders from cities across the UK, including Manchester, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Edinburgh.
Expect quality street food made with passion and love. From 28-day aged flat-iron steak to smoked pulled pork and cider-glazed Yorkshire chorizo. Veggies are also in for a treat with proper wood-fired pizzas, Japanese soul food ‘braised aubergine donburi’ and dessert from the UK’s first crème brûlée van.

Richard Johnson, Founder of the British Street Food Awards added: “We brought the Awards to Leeds two years ago, and it was like a massive talent show. With the public as the judges. I can’t wait to see what they make of this little lot!”
Chris Harrison from Shoot the Bull: “I am so excited to be part of the northern heat. It’s a great opportunity to showcase what the region has to offer in terms of street food. There is no denying how the UK has gone street food mad and I’m expecting the standards to be high and tough competition but that equally just excites me! We will be serving up our restaurant style food on the street…Pigeon Breast with Fig & Pomegranate, Seared King Scallop with Brawn Fritter & Homegrown Rhubarb, Blow Torched Mackerel and our very popular Lamb Breast. All available in ‘taster menu’ portions so you can try one or all of them!”
Visitors can attend the heats from 10am till late on Saturday and Sunday to sample and cast their votes. The winner will be declared on Sunday afternoon and go through to the British Street Food Awards Final in Birmingham. Read about the full line up of traders here.

Leeds Dock will also be holding the ever popular Dragon Boat Race in aid of the Heart Research UK charity. Come and cheer on the teams from local businesses as they battle it out on the water in fancy dress and don’t miss the canoe polo tournament on Sunday! Dock 29 bar will be hosting a Caribbean party with delicious West Indian food with DJ’s and acoustic acts plus a terrace cocktail bar with Leeds Loves Cocktails.
At Victoria Wharf our friends at Brasserie Blanc will be giving visitors a taste of French culture with al fresco dining on their terrace, overlooking the water. You can also enjoy unique art and craft stalls, classic cars, a game of Boules and terrace BBQ with a quirky bicycle bar. Saturday promises French bistro accordion music and Sunday will be hosted by The Speak Easy, showcasing local acoustic acts from 2-6pm. Brasserie Blanc will be serving their £9.95 two courses pre-fixed meal Mon-Sat 12-6.30pm.
At Granary Wharf you can enjoy The Hop’s Beer Festival with live music, Candlebar’s oven fired pizzas and Pour House will be hosting a Musical Barge with live music all weekend moored in their fabulous waterside beer garden!
