Wizarding Afternoon Tea Makes a Magic Return To The Grand, York
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>
Afternoon tea has long been one of Britain’s most treasured traditions, but at The Grand, it takes on an altogether more enchanting form with a Wizarding spin.
Returning for 2026 and running until 30th September, the hotel’s much-loved Wizarding Afternoon Tea once again invites guests to step into a world where magic is served alongside freshly baked treats.
Themed tables are dressed with bubbling potion bottles, miniature cauldrons and witches’ broomsticks, while secret menus reveal themselves through invisible ink.
The magic begins as soon as you walk through the door, with a selection of colourful brews and magical potions served on arrival, accompanied by an ice-cold glass of butter beer that immediately sets the tone for the whimsical experience ahead.

Of course, afternoon tea is ultimately about the food, and The Grand doesn’t disappoint. The standout sweet is the Grand Talisman, a cinnamon doughnut finished with mascarpone honey chantilly.
On the savoury side, the Yorkshire brie and celeriac quiche showcases local flavours with a refined touch, alongside the traditional finger sandwiches and handcrafted pastries expected from a luxury afternoon tea.

This year’s return also comes with an exciting initiative that extends the magic beyond the hotel. The Grand has launched a schools competition inviting children to design their own magical potion bottle, complete with a name, magical powers and a list of mystical ingredients.
The winning creation will earn its creator a Wizarding Afternoon Tea experience for their entire class and teachers.
Every child who enters the competition will also receive 50% off a Wizarding Afternoon Tea booking when accompanied by an adult, making it an accessible excuse for families to experience the event together.
Entries can be emailed, posted or hand-delivered to the hotel’s reception before judging takes place.
So, head over to the The Grand before 30th September to get a taste of the magic, we promise it’ll be a real spell of fun!
