Just a stone’s throw from York City Centre, The Biga + is serving up a sweet slice of Italy. Their menu is packed with mouthwatering Italian street food, from cheesy garlic buns to cannoli, coffee, arancini and tasty tiramisu. This is the spot for a sweet treat.

Nestled on Swinegate, Heppni Bakeri is an artisan French and Scandi-inspired bakery serving homemade pastries and speciality coffee.
Owner India Luck began her career in the industry at only 14 in the Shambles Kitchen. Since the summer of 2024, India has wowed people with Heppni’s viennoiserie pastry. Choose from croissants, pain au chocolat, almond croissants, seasonal fruit danishes, and more – of course, paired with amazing coffee.

Little Arras’ story begins in Sydney, where now owner, Adam, was taught the basics of great bread. From the brains behind successful York restaurant Arras, Little Arras is their better baked half.
Head to their warehouse-style shop just by York Minster and check out their slow fermented breads, pastries and cakes for yourself. This is not a spot to miss.

York bakeries: Bluebird Bakery
York is where Bluebird’s bakery story began. Now boasting six sites across Yorkshire, it has been a great one. Famous for their incredible bread, they use only the best local ingredients and traditional long fermentation methods to supply handcrafted loaves to delis, cafes and restaurants across the region.
As bakeries go, this is one of our all-time favourites in York, whether it’s their pastries or their beautifully crafted loaves, the love and attention that goes into these baked goods is second to none.

York bakeries: Cosgriff and Sons Sourdough
Sourdough lovers, we’ve found your place! Gut-healthy and outrageously tasty, Cosgriff and Sons started making their sourdough loaves on a kitchen table and have expanded to a gorgeous bakery overlooking Clifford’s tower.
What began as a side hustle in lockdown completely blew up, and now Cosgriff and Sons are known all over the country for their inventive pastries and mouthwatering sandos.

Baker Lotte, who mastered her craft in Stockholm, has brought some seriously tasty scandi inspired sweet treats to her York bakery. Found on Bishopthorpe Road, a hub for locals, Flori Bakery is bursting with a great community atmosphere.
Serving the most incredible seasonal specials, this place quickly went from a pop-up to a bit of a landmark – all from buttery pastries and an amazing community feel.
