Sheffield Food Festival | 24th – 27th May 2019
Sheffield Food Festival is a celebration of the city’s vibrant food scene, showcasing the city’s great local produce, talented chefs, mouth-watering street food and outstanding brewers and distillers. The city’s largest free to attend event takes place for its ninth year from 24th – 27th May 2019 in the city centre, spreading across the Peace Gardens, Winter Gardens, Millennium Square, Town Hall Square, Fargate and Orchard Square, attracting over 50,000 visitors across the weekend.
Their ARTISAN MARKET marquee features food producers and businesses from around Sheffield and further afield, bringing a range of preserves, oils, cakes, cookery books, craft beers, gins, cakes and much more for you to take home and enjoy. At the heart of the festival, they have the THEATRE KITCHEN, featuring top chefs from across the city and showing how to get the best from the great local produce on offer.
The extensive STREET FOOD MARKET is jam-packed with delicious treats from local companies; with over 90% of the traders based in the city, it really is a celebration of Sheffield food. The EATS, TREATS & BEATS FESTIVAL VILLAGE extends this offer, with a hand-picked selection of our favourite street food traders open into the night, alongside their stylish stretch tent, al fresco seating, bar stocked by great local breweries and fantastic live music and DJs.
There are many more serious issues raised around food – food poverty, managing food waste, the impact of our food choices on the environment and climate, to name a few – they have the FOOD FOR THOUGHT programme of talks and debates to explore these issues and learn about how we are working to make the food system in Sheffield better for everyone. The SHEFFOOD VILLAGE is packed full of family-friendly activities including seed sowing and cooking together, not forgetting a selection of locally produced beer and the most shocking food waste mountain – an eye opener for all!
It doesn’t end there! The Sheffield Food Festival programme includes plenty of FAMILY FUN, with kids activities in the Winter Gardens and Orchard Square to keep little hands and minds occupied whilst families enjoy a day of total food and drink indulgence.
The full programme of traders and activities for this year’s event is due to be released. Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear the lineup. Plus, look out for the brand new Sheffield Food Festival magazine, which will be available across the city in May.
