British Street Food Awards heads to Sheffield this weekend

This weekend is the British Street Food Awards with 15 of the country’s best street food traders heading to Peddler Market in Sheffield for a weekend of serious eating, competition and culinary creativity.
Running from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September, the event will see traders from across Britain serve up their signature dishes, with the public voting for their favourite and an expert judging panel selecting the overall British Street Food Awards Champion.
The stakes are high. The winners will go on to represent Britain at the European Street Food Awards Finals in Germany from 18–20 September, where they will compete against champions from 19 other European countries.

Meet the British Street Food Awards finalists 15 traders and 15 very different takes on street food.
The 2026 finalists showcase just how diverse Britain’s street food scene has become, from handmade Hong Kong-style dumplings and Nigerian suya to Welsh-Indian cooking, Michelin-level burgers, authentic Sichuan noodles and live-fire cooking.
Oh Mei Dumplings
Hand-pleated, pan-fried beef dumplings inspired by Hong Kong home cooking, served with Mama Mui chilli oil. A family affair led by the hugely charismatic Mei.
Suya Boiz
Smoky Nigerian barbecue cooked over the grill and coated in signature yaji spice, alongside deeply flavoured jollof rice and fluffy puff puff.
Cegin HalfnHalf
Welsh-inspired cooking with Indian flair, combining local produce with rich gravies, slow-cooked meats and exceptional biryani.
Hungry Cowboy
Low-and-slow barbecue, loaded brioche buns and big Western personality from a proudly Welsh cowboy.
Joy & Gladness
Chef Bigga brings Jamaican soul food to the streets, with his deeply seasoned Jamaican goat curry at the heart of the menu.
Flats Doughnuts
Award-winning, plant-based doughnuts that pile on the toppings and refuse to take the humble doughnut too seriously.
Ember
A premium live-fire food truck from Fife, bringing restaurant-quality cooking to the street using wood fire and charcoal.
Naughty Boi Smashburgers
Crispy-edged, juicy smashburgers built from years of food-truck experience and very serious burger testing.
Pudd
Indulgent desserts loaded with silky sauces, fresh fruit, crunchy toppings and plenty of chocolate.
The Burger Society
Michelin-trained burger obsessives serving precision-built burgers, including a signature patty created with butchers Aubrey Allen.
Paella Garcia
A London street-food institution serving authentic Spanish paella from enormous pans, with seafood and vibrant vegetarian versions.
Mama Lala
Authentic Sichuan street food, with Dan Dan noodles, homemade chilli oil and Sichuan pickles delivering the region’s famous spicy, tongue-tingling flavour.
Stones Throw
Plant-based pizza and panuozzo cooked from a converted horsebox, proving vegan food can be every bit as indulgent.
Friends Corner
Japanese-style pork belly skewers grilled over binchotan charcoal, brushed with tare and served with serious night-market energy.
The Thai Food Van
Family-inspired Thai cooking built around a much-loved Massaman curry, with carefully sourced ingredients and recipes refined over decades.

Meet the judges
On Sunday, the expert judging panel will work their way through the dishes served by all 15 finalists before deciding who deserves to be crowned British Street Food Awards Champion.
Ahmed Abdalla
Chef & Great British Menu contestant
London-born, Yorkshire-based and now onto his next chapter. Ahmed recently left Legacy at The Grand, York, where he helped earn a Michelin Guide mention and three AA Rosettes. He’s also represented Yorkshire on Great British Menu, so he knows a thing or two about cooking under pressure, championing great produce and putting flavour first.
Tom Lawson
Lawson Hospitality, Sheffield
Sheffield chef, restaurateur and hospitality heavyweight. Tom founded Lawson Hospitality, is behind The Psalter and The Ladybower Inn, and previously took Rafters to three AA Rosettes and Michelin recognition. He knows kitchens. He knows Sheffield. He knows what people want to eat.
Kerre

Co-founder, Yorkshire Food Guide
Jonathan Harris is co-founder of the Yorkshire Food Guide, the first and only website covering the whole region’s restaurants, food and drink events and offers. A proper Yorkshire food obsessive with his finger firmly on the region’s culinary pulse.
The awards
From Friday to Sunday, visitors can vote for their favourite trader in the People’s Choice Award. Votes from all three days will be combined, with the winner announced at around 3 pm on Sunday 6 September.
The judges will also award prizes for:

- Best Snack
- Best Burger
- Best Vegetarian
- The Spice Award
- The Sustainability Award

Additional awards will be decided by online voting, including Best Looking Van, Truck & Trailer, Best Digital Content Creator and Best Food Hall.
Once decided, the major award winners will be invited to represent Britain at the European Street Food Awards Finals in Germany, 18th – 20th September.
There, they will compete against winners from 19 other European countries for the ultimate street food title, and we cannot wait to see who comes out on top.
