New Leeds Indian restaurant and steakhouse to open in Headingley

A new Indian restaurant and steakhouse Bukhara is set to open in Leeds this spring, it has been revealed.

Called Bukhara, the new Leeds Indian restaurant will take over the former Giorgio’s Italian site in Headingley following the popular restaurant’s closure earlier this month.

Brought to the suburb by two experienced operators, the Otley Road eatery will double up as an Indian restaurant and a steakhouse following an extensive makeover of the site.

Owners Malik Dobir and Mohammed Ali also have plans to introduce gourmet burgers at the new Leeds restaurant when it opens its doors this spring.

Promising to combine the aromatic spices of India with the mouthwatering aromas of a steakhouse, Bukhara’s co-owners are currently overseeing an interior design refresh to modernise the space.

An opening date is yet to be revealed, but owners say that when Bukhara launches it will offer a simple yet sophisticated menu with a focus on top-quality cuts of meat and big, bold flavours.

They hope to create a new dining destination on the Otley Road, but the new Leeds Indian restaurant has some big shoes to fill.

Giorgio’s Italian, run by beloved Leeds restauranteur George Psarias (formerly of the popular Olive Tree chain which had branches in Rodley, Headingley and Chapel Allerton), closed its doors on 4th February after fifteen years.

However, its owner has hinted that it may not be the last we’ll see of him – suggesting that he may well open a new site elsewhere in the city, after taking a few months off to relax that is.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I have been approached by one or two restaurants, so this might not be the end.”

The restaurant was first listed for sale in October last year for £120,000, with the listing describing the site as “probably one of the best trading positions for a restaurant in all of the Leeds suburbs”.
