Dishoom Leeds opens this August with 50% off
One of our favourite modern Indian restaurants, Dishoom, is making its arrival in Leeds this August, bringing the warmth, bustle and spirit of Bombay’s old Irani cafés right to Vicar Lane.
Dishoom will welcome guests to its highly anticipated café from August 3rd, with 50% off food for their initial opening period, ahead of its official opening on August 14th.
You’ll find it between the Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter shopping centres on Vicar Lane as it marks Dishoom’s long-awaited arrival in the city.
As with every Dishoom venue, the Leeds restaurant also has its story. This one draws inspiration from the extraordinary events surrounding the April 1944 explosion of the SS Fort Stikine at Bombay Dock. This wartime disaster sent gold bars flying across the city.
Legend has it that some of the missing gold was never recovered. Some was discovered embedded in walls and rooftops across Bombay. Other pieces, perhaps, quietly disappeared into the hands of lucky citizens, melted into bangles or hidden away in drawers.
Dishoom Leeds reimagines the fortune made from the gold, and you can discover subtle references to glamorous mid-century details throughout the interiors and artwork.

With all-day dining available, including their iconic breakfast right through to late evening feasting, the café will serve a lovingly curated menu of dishes inspired by Bombay’s cafés, street stalls and family kitchens.
We can’t wait to dive into some Dishoom classics, including their famed Bacon Naan Roll, melt-in-mouth Chicken Ruby curry and sharing menus for larger groups that feature dishes such as Keema Pau, House Black Daal, Chicken Berry Britannia and Pistachio Kulfi.
Enjoy some proper Bombay comfort food alongside an extensive drinks list featuring the India Gimlet and Kohinoor Mojito. There’s also a brilliant wine list, Kingfisher beer, and of course, Dishoom’s signature house chai.

This opening continues Dishoom’s mission to unite people over food, inspired by the welcoming Irani cafés of Bombay.
Shamil Thakrar, co-founder, also known as Head Babu, at Dishoom, said: “Leeds is a city with tremendous warmth, creativity and character, full of people who know the value of gathering together over good food and drinks. Bringing Dishoom here has long been a dream for us.”
“The story behind this café is rooted in one of Bombay’s most extraordinary moments – the day gold bars fell from the sky after the explosion of Fort Stikine in 1944. Amidst the tragedy and chaos, there were also tales of unexpected fortune, human resilience and hopeful reinvention. We were captivated by this, and we cannot wait to welcome Leeds into the café that pays homage to the heritage of Bombay.”
