Lavang Sheffield achieves Carbon Neutral status

In 2021 Lavang in Sheffield achieved Carbon Neutral status and are now certified as an official Carbon Neutral company, covering all their operations.
Nestled in the leafy suburbs of Sheffield’s Fulwood, Lavang showcase refined Indian cuisine. The team pride themselves on offering something a little different, with a focus on serving high-quality seasonal dishes in a stylish and sophisticated setting, without being pretentious.
The awarding of Carbon Neutral status to Lavang in Sheffield means that the restaurant’s carbon footprint has been reduced and the remaining carbon footprint is offset through certified projects in Britain and around the world. Including the Yorkshire Dales Woodland Strategy with the major objective being the creation of new native woodland.
The process to become carbon neutral at Lavang restaurant involved looking at all aspects of the restaurant. Some of their initiatives to achieve sustainability are smaller menus, specials boards to use up excess stock, using local suppliers, ordering effectively so they only deliver once a week and no excess food portions. Minimising waste both from the kitchen and dining area.
Lavang’s Executive Chef and Co-Owner Jay Kawsar said: “The pandemic forced our hand and we have had to adapt, such as moving our services online with takeaways and our gift shop. Part of the changes we had to consider were to encourage our customers to shop locally. The initial work was done to create a social value action plan.
This covers all aspects such as Economical, Environmental and Social, so we’ve been working our way through this and going Carbon Neutral is one of the many goals we worked towards achieving. There are more plans in the pipeline such as generating our own energy and focusing on the mental health and wellbeing of our staff.”
