Prashad celebrates 34th birthday with Thali of Fortune giveaway

West Yorkshire favourite Prashad, Bradford, is celebrating 34 years of Gujarati cooking with a giveaway that could see guests win a year of free meals, alongside plenty of food and drink.

The family-run restaurant on the Leeds-Bradford border is marking the milestone with its Thali of Fortune giveaway, running from 14th October until 31st December 2026.

Everyone who visits inbetween then will receive a scratch card with their bill, with prizes ranging from a free round of drinks or dessert to their entire meal covered.

The biggest prize is a year of free Prashad, worth £1,200, giving one lucky diner £100 a month to spend at the restaurant throughout 2027.

There’s also a one-in-40 chance of winning a free meal, while one in four cards offers 25% off a return visit or a free round of drinks or dessert.

The giveaway takes its inspiration from Prashad’s popular Maharani Thali, meaning ‘Royal Plate’, which brings together the chef’s pick of starters, curries, sides, accompaniments and something sweet.

And if you’re wondering how to eat it like a Gujarati, Bobby Patel, who runs Prashad with his wife and head chef Minal, has a tip – don’t leave the sweet stuff until last.

“The best mouthful is when you tear off some rotli, scoop up some shrikhand (a sweet, hung yoghurt) and then any of the curries… Trust me, it’s sublime. And fortune flavours the brave, after all.”

Prashad began life as a family-run vegetarian deli founded by Kaushy and Mohan Patel in the early 1990s, when meat-free dining was far less mainstream. Bobby and Minal took the reins in 2004 before moving the business to its current home in Drighlington in 2012.

Since then, Prashad, Bradford, has earned a loyal following for its Gujarati vegetarian cooking, picking up a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA Rosettes along the way.
