Leeds long-awaited pasta restaurant Sarto has just opened.
The joint project between Laynes Espresso and The Brunswick gives both a new avenue for their much-lauded endeavours and if the (completely sold out) Sarto pop-up nights at Laynes have been any measure, Leeds is hotly anticipating this new opening.
Although Leeds has some more traditional Italian family restaurants in the outskirts and a rash of Italian chains in the centre, Sarto brings something new – quality, homemade pasta, in a cool and informal environment, in the city centre.
Sarto Leeds Location
Head to Munro House, home to Cafe 164 and Colours May Vary, to see the new venue. The ex-fabric warehouse (hence the name, sarto being Italian for tailor) will offer a dining experience perfect for all scenarios – casual enough for a quick working lunch, fancy enough for a date night, and tasty enough for both and everything in-between.
Sarto’s menu brings together pasta dishes from across the regions of Italy, given unique Sarto twists. Menu items include the likes of:
– Pan-fried gnocchi, jerusalem artichoke, nutmeg and thyme
– Squid ink bucatini, nduja, shetland mussels and samphire
– Pumpkin, sage & taleggio arancini, aioli
– Pappardelle, neck of beef ragu, old winchester
And to drink?
Sarto will be pouring some great refreshments to go with their top-calibre Italian food offering, too. Beers on tap will range from local North Brew Co. offerings to Amstel, complemented by plenty of favourites in the bottle bar. Wine will be procured from local aficionados Latitude and Wayward Wines, and Sarto will be using the Sustainable Spirit Co. for their house spirits. The guys from behind the bar at the Brunswick will be bringing their knowledge to the fore by shaking up some great cocktails with these, too.
Dave Olejnik, Sarto co-Founder:
“Finally we’re open…coincidentally the same day as my 40th birthday! Running the Sarto pop-ups at Laynes for 6 weekends helped us trial and test many of the dishes you’ll see on the menu, and allowed us to chat with people about what we aim to achieve. We’re sure Sarto will find its place amongst the other quality-led casual dining venues that Leeds has to offer.”
Yanni, Sarto Head Chef:
“I’m so excited to finally have Sarto open. It will allow me the opportunity to make fresh pasta dishes while working with a combination of Italian heritage ingredients and the best of local producers. I’ll be pushing pasta in a direction that everyone can relate to, whilst making sure we serve something unique and honest.”
Sarto Leeds opened Saturday 19th October, so get down to Munro House soon to visit the city centre’s answer to the best homemade pasta.
