White Rose Awards 2017 Finalists Announced
Some of Yorkshire’s best-know and well-loved hotels and restaurants are among 100 plus businesses, making the shortlist of the prestigious ‘White Rose Awards’, which celebrate the very best of tourism in the county.
The independent judging panel is chaired by Colin Mellors, Pro-Vice Chancellor of York University, along with food writer Elaine Lemm and customer experience expert, Mark Bradley.
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, commented:
“The quality of this year’s entries has been exceptional and makes me feel hugely proud of all the brilliant work going on in tourism in the county. It’s an honour to be part of these awards that recognise the many businesses and organisations that make Yorkshire such an amazing destination. I extend my thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and huge congratulations to those who have made the shortlist.”
Around a thousand people will come together this autumn to celebrate the county’s finest tourism businesses, when the winners will be announced. This annual industry event is one of the most spectacular and well attended Awards evenings of its kind.
Some of our favourites, The Black Swan Hotel, Helmsley, The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa, Bolton Abbey and Goldsborough Hall, near Knaresborough, commented on the accolade of making the short-list for this year’s Awards:
Sales & Marketing Manager of The Black Swan Hotel in Helmsley, Jayne Potter (Short listed for ‘Large Hotel’): “After having won ‘Hotel of the Year’ in 2015, we chose not to take part in the awards last year, so we’re thrilled to once again be shortlisted for ‘Hotel of the Year’ in this year’s ‘White Rose Awards’.
The hotel has continued to improve since we won, and the team remain dedicated to enhancing our guests’ experience of staying here in Helmsley. We feel that we offer our guests a quintessential Yorkshire experience with a warm welcome – fingers crossed that the judges agree!”
General Manager of The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa, Adam Dyke, (also Short listed for ‘Large Hotel’): “On behalf of the whole team here, we are delighted to join the short list for Large Hotel; it’s a time of transition for us, we’re really pushing the boat out to be absolutely the best that Yorkshire has on offer, so we feel good to have been recognised for our efforts thus far, and we’re eager now to have the chance to prove ourselves at number one in this category.”
Mark Oglesby, Owner of Goldsborough Hall, (Short listed for ‘Small Hotel’): “Being short listed for the White Rose Awards is wonderful news. Our offering here at Goldsborough is unique; a privately-owned and exclusive venue, with only twelve luxurious guest bedrooms and suites, and a family home. The Hall has a rich history and Royal connections, as it was home to the Queen’s aunt, HRH Princess Mary, in the 1920’s. Upon marriage to Viscount Henry Lascelles (later sixth Earl of Harewood) Princess Mary was fondly known as ‘The Yorkshire Princess’. We are very proud to have been recognised as one of Yorkshire’s finest hotels.”
