How Yorkshire restaurants can support lifechanging cancer charity

Yorkshire hospitality businesses are uniting this month to support children and young people with cancer through Candlelighters’ £1 on the Bill campaign.

Candlelighters is a Yorkshire-based charity that has been supporting children with cancer and their families for almost 50 years.

Through a simple and effective initiative, venues can invite customers to add a voluntary £1 donation to their bill.

Samantha Williams, Partnership Development Manager at Candlelighters says “A childhood cancer diagnosis turns life upside down, not only for the child but for the whole family.”

“By taking part in this initiative, hospitality businesses are helping us to provide crucial support and fund vital research.”

This small act of a £1 donation helps fund Candlelighters’ vital services.

Including front-line Family Support Workers in hospital to financial grants, therapeutic services, holidays, and unforgettable experiences for families navigating the toughest of times.

Local businesses already taking part have praised the initiative for its simplicity and impact.

Mowgli Street Food is one participating Leeds restaurant, with Candlelighters as their charity partner.

Over the past five years, they’ve managed to raise an incredible £75,000 simply by adding a £1 donation to the bill.

Candlelighters Sam Williams says:  “Whether a business just wants to get involved for September, or would like to support beyond that, it’s a chance to make a real difference.

“Businesses can inspire employees, connect more deeply with customers, and be recognised for doing something that truly matters.”

This September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September, making this initiative even more pertinent.
