The Star Inn The Harbour, appropriately named, is headed up by Michelin-Starred chef Andrew Pern. Pern grew up in Whitby and returned to complete his dream of opening a restaurant in his hometown. Their impressive menu boasts catch of the day fish, alongside furred and feathered game, fresh from the nearby North Yorkshire Moors.

The menu is generous, so no one should have trouble finding a dish that is suited to them. With thanks to the large selection of vegan and vegetarian options too, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Alongside traditional fish and chips check the menu for steak of the day, Shetland mussels or even herring caviar. A children’s menu is also available for the hungry little tykes.

The history of restaurant No 20 in Port Mulgrave is full of confidence, dedication – and really good food. With a simple menu of three starters, three mains and three desserts, the focus on quality over quantity is clear. Unpretentious dishes where the ingredients take centre stage and are simply cooked.

Their smart open kitchen with state of the art Josper charcoal grill, means that No 20 is a great option if you don’t want seafood. Expect prime rib of beef from Ripon’s Taste Tradition and superb Galician beef Carpaccio dressed with mix of thyme, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic.
