Laynes

You cannot miss Laynes Espresso, with a brightly double-fronted shop and some of the best coffee in Leeds, there’s no wonder it’s got people talking.

Situated close to Leeds Train Station, it’s a perfect spot for both commuters and brunch lovers. Expect great coffee, pastries fresh from their bakery in Armley and a menu that truly elevates traditional breakfast dishes.

Serving cosiness and coffee is Sonder. Famed for their retro, Japanese vibes and excellent patisserie, you will not be disappointed by their flavours or creativity.

92 degrees

Big name in the coffee game, 92 degrees, is based in Liverpool but has branched out to Yorkshire. Boasting four cafes in Leeds, they’re the cool girl of coffee shops. Think matcha, expertly roasted coffee, toasties and croissants.

You can even sign up for monthly subscriptions to their self-proclaimed “damn fine coffee” to enjoy at home. Confidence like that makes this one of the best cafes in Leeds.

Livett’s

Having opened in February 2024, kiosk-style coffee shop Livetts has made its mark. Sourcing their coffee from local favourites North Star, they have a big focus on sustainability.

Livett’s sister company, The Wardrobe, is just next door, and the pair are located by Leeds bus station. Locally roasted coffee and delicious baked goods from nearby suppliers make this cafe worth a visit.

Caffé Brigante

If seven different flavours of tiramisu excites you, look no further. Caffe Brigante is serving up authentic Italian flavours. They prepare their plates and pastries in-house, the traditional way.

They have fostered a welcoming and, importantly, a friendly space to enjoy real Italian patisserie and coffee in Leeds city centre, all influenced by the flavours of Modena.

If Up North

The flagship of the If Up North brand is found on Call Lane. Famous for their full Yorkshire breakfast, their all-day brunch menu is a hit.

They also serve a variety of pastries and cakes to go alongside their own coffee roast. Depending on your vibe, you can head to Park Square, where you will find IF rooftop, their rooftop bar, where you can swap coffee for cocktails.

The North Star’s coffee empire has taken over Leeds, supplying its roast to cafes across the city. Their own coffee shops are equally as impressive as their coffee, hosting a menu bursting with locally sourced ingredients in the shape of brunch classics.

Their coffee shops keep sustainability at the centre of what they do, as well as a dedication to their craft – it’s this that makes North Star amongst the best cafes in Leeds.

La Bottega Milanese

If you’re looking for another authentic Italian coffee fix, La Bottega Milanese is serving more than just incredible espresso – they’re delivering Milan straight to Leeds. Their belief is “if it’s not from Italy, it’s from Yorkshire”, importing cakes and fine meats from Italy but using local suppliers for their bread and stuffed croissants.

Having opened in 2009, they’ve now expanded to 3 branches and are the cool older sister of Leeds coffee shops. Offering authentic Milanese vibes and coffee.

Olive and Rye

Hash brown benedict and an espresso martini, anyone? Olive and Rye are one step ahead, with their amazing all-day brunch menu. They cover the fail-safe classic lunch menu dishes, but give them a modern Olive and Rye twist.

Their coffee is roasted by Dark Woods in Huddersfield, and they also host an impressive selection of teas, but above all, a cocktail menu! Olive and Rye are situated in the stunning Queens Arcade just next to their sibling Olive and Thai.

Hot off the press, we have Habitum. Having only opened on the 6th of September, they’re fresh on the scene, with fresh new ideas. From the creators of one of our favourite cafes in Leeds, La Bottega Milanese, we’re confident you’re in safe hands.

Just across the river Aire, they’re re-conceptualising coffee and customer experience. Think wellness, convenience and a modern take on an everyday essential, coffee.
