Four Yorkshire Chip Shops Named Best In UK
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>Following their hunt for the best beaches in the UK, The Times have ranked their favourite chippy teas across the country, unveiling the best fish and chips in Yorkshire.
We all love a fish supper on a Friday, so to give you some inspiration for your next trip to the chip shop, here are The Time’s recommendations:
The Tunny Club, Scarborough
The Tunny Club received rave reviews from The Times for their fish and chips, and it wasn’t just because of the famous faces on their walls who’ve visited over the years. The fish and chips are both cooked to order at Tunny’s, making for an incredibly fresh teatime treat. The restaurant also features wooden benches and a historic fish bar with a surprisingly low ceiling, if you fancy dining in. If not, the seafront is only a short stroll away. Get your fish fix from £7.95 for some of the best fish and chips in Yorkshire.

Whitehead’s Fish & Chips, Hornsea
Now this place truly is a strong contender for the best fish and chips in Yorkshire. Whitehead’s actually won the award for the UK’s Best Chip Shop last year in the National Fish and Chip Awards. Owner, Geoff Whitehead, runs the successful East Yorkshire chippy with his mum, creating the signature British meal day in and day out.
The secret to a good plate of fish and chips? The batter, Geoff told The Times. This one is tucked away in a housing estate a little while away from the beachfront, but it sure is worth the trip. Starting from £14.50, pay a visit to one of North Yorkshire’s best eateries.

Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough
Having only been open for 3 years, the Lighthouse Fisheries just around the corner from Bempton Cliffs is a newcomer to the fish and chip scene in Yorkshire. Despite this, they’ve already won 2 awards in the National Fish & Chip Awards including Best Newcomer in 2023 and a Top 10 entry in 2024.
Sustainability is a key theme at the Lighthouse which won over The Times, with plenty of information on display of exactly where their spuds and fish come from on the East Yorkshire coast. If you fancy something other than fish, try their famous Flamborough crab cake for £1.90 a serving.

Magpie Cafe, Whitby
The Times loves the Magpie Cafe in Whitby as one of the best fish and chip spots in Yorkshire. If you’re after a non-pretentious fish supper on the beachfront, this is the place for you. Ignore the ‘creaky floorboards’ and ‘funfair haunted house’ type of rooms as the article describes but you must order their beef-dripping fish and chips. Starting from £16.95, give it a whirl when you’re next visiting Whitby for some of the best fish and chips in Yorkshire.
