Located within York’s iconic 5-star hotel, The Cookery School at The Grand offers a unique cooking experience, in state-of-the-art facilities designed for novice and aspiring chefs, open to both hotel guests and non-guests, with classes inspired by cuisines from around the world.
Marc Williams, who joined as The Cookery School Director in 2022, has been hungry to share his passion for cooking local produce and express his unique culinary flair. Over the past year, this vision has enabled Marc to bring an exciting and fresh perspective to the luxury hotel’s cookery school offering and classes.

The kitchen is equipped with high-tech cookery equipment, 16 workstations as well as an external courtyard complete with a herb garden and seating area. From ‘Artisan Bread Making’ to ‘Curry Night: Vegan’ classes, The Cookery School offers a variety of courses designed for everyone.
Not only are the cookery school classes ideal for learning a little extra about fine cuisine, but it serves as a dynamic setting for events and conferences as well as a unique and fun experience for individuals.
The Cookery School at The Grand hosts over 40 classes
With over 40 different classes spanning a wide range of cuisines and skills, the school provides the perfect opportunity for creating unforgettable memories and inspiring guests to keep coming back time and again.

Just this month, The Cookery School at The Grand partnered with the innovative barbecuing brand, Weber, to offer cooking enthusiasts the opportunity to perfect their barbecuing skills this spring with two new masterclasses. ‘Weber Essentials’ and ‘Weber Barbecue Classics’ will run through the spring and summer, making them the perfect culinary experience and interactive treat for those looking to learn how to master the art of barbecuing.
